Yesterday I got a new notebook for work. It's a Fujitsu Siemens notebook and it's got a built-in Sierra Wireless HSDPA 8755 network adapter. We didn't have a choice to get the notebook without the card. I am drooling over this thing, but I don't know how to make it work. :( :o

I popped in my simcard but dunno much further what to do. The card is working according to the hardware manager, but I didn't get any software with it, like with Vodafone Mobile Connect's software.

082155 said I must download the Vodafone software, and Sierra Wireless support says so too, but on Vodacom's site I don't see anything mentioned about Sierra Wireless.

Any suggestions would be welcome - it is criminal to have all this speed at my fingertips and not being able to use it :(

You sure it did not come with it's own 'dashboard'?

The FS notebooks with built-in cards I've seen had their own utility. You just enter the apn, etc. and off you go.

Which model is it?

It didn't come with any dashboard software, no cd, nothing installed that I can see. It says on the invoice UMTS module Sierrawireless 8755 (V)
Under device manager in Windows under network adapters it says Sierra Wireless HSDPA Network Adapter.

You should have the following:

Dashboard Utility: 3G Watcher Version 1.1.1.870.

HSDPA device is die MC8755.

I can always try and get a copy for you, but it's going to cost! ;)

I see some watcher software on Sierra's site, but none for the 8755
What's your price?

v3g's usual virtual-price is a virtual beer or two, but maybe a decent bottle of wine...:D

Yes, but ajax already owes me a few of those (can't remember why, think we once upgraded a tower to CS9 just for him), so this will have to be the real thing.

Ajax, I've asked for the software and drivers. Will let you know if I get it.

What is the model number of the laptop itself?

Yes, thanks to V3g an upgrade of most of the Stellenbosch towers to MCS9 took place, thanks for that, although back then I was more after an explanation for the "slow" EDGE, rather than an upgrade!

The notebook is the Lifebook E Series 8210.

Over delivered again!

PM me an e-mail addy and contact number, if I need to get hold of you over the weekend.

Thanks, sent you a pm.
It would seem that I'm an early adopter in this case. I've spent about 2 hours on the net looking for a solution, but found nothing.

Thanks, rehd. I have the drivers, and the card is working. I just need the software to interface with the card to make a data connection.

Thanks again to Vodacom3g for saving the day. Got the 3G Watcher software for my card from him. Card working 100%

By the way, Vodacom3g doesn't look at all like he "sounds" ;)

Sierra Wireless MC8755V

This is the only place I found close to getting a Sierra Wireless MC8755V
and 3G Watcher Software. Got my Driver software with the Laptop, a AMILO Si 1848. Can you please help me in getting the 3G Watcher Software.
As I understand it is working 100% for Vodacom.:D

Only saw this now! What are you implying??? ;) You mean I don't sound as hunky, sophisticated and elegant as I look? Will have to work on my on-line grammar....:(

We'll see how you look after a few months of playing night-owl with the new arrival!

BTW, do you still have this software for Lilo? I don't think I kept a copy.

It's at work somewhere. Will have a look tomorrow.

[What I meant was I was building a picture of you in my mind based on your online "presence". Seeing you barefoot in shorts just didn't fit the picture of a Vodacom "geek".]
