Good Day

We have a dish on the roof of our building ( 4 floors up ) and we get a signal level of 35% and signal quality of 100%. The signal are breaking up on most of the sport channels, specially overseas live broadcasts. This only started when another huge dish was installed nearby. Can it be inteferance?

Its more likely that the LNB has moved out of alignment over time unless the dish is pointing directly at another building or a really tall tree

We checked the LNB alignment and it is correct. It was mentioned that the RG59 cable may be a problem. What cable is the correct one?

I vote deep fades by multi-path, a dish is a great reflector (that's its point), if the guy hasn't pointed it properly, might be reflecting towards your dish.

That may be the problem as this started about the same time they installed the dish. Other question - can it be the decoder?

Could be an infinite amount of things, what you need to do is find which one is most probable :p Decoder? Not very likely if it has been working fine for years.

Thanks Isie, We are going to move it to see if the other dish nearby is the culprit. The technician still think it is the RG59 cable.

That is the problem. RG59 does not perform well in the IF (sat) frequency range. You will have high signal attenuation (loss). It's supposed to be RG6 cable.

Hi Guys

The guys from DSTV were here nad they installed a inline which solved the problem. The signal level is now above 60%. They suggested that we monitor the system and if problem appears again, install RG6 or RG11 cable.

Thanks for your response.

Re-installing cable from the start would have been the better option. Inline amp is only a quick fix. RG59 is not made for satellite frequencies... and you don't need RG11 to drop down a few floors, as RG6 will be sufficient up to around 70m.
