Does anyone know of a way that you can measure the signal strength of your WiMAX connection?

I get local downloads, from Newshost and the likes, at around 55-60kb/s which is close to the theoretical maximum, so I'm not really fussed about the quality of the connection. It would be interesting to know how strong my signal is, seeing that I am nothing less than 10km from the base station, with clear LOS though....

As far as I know the signal strength of WiMAX will have no impact on your through put. The though put is determined by the ISP provision. I don’t think there is a tool to check the signal strength that you can down load. The guys that installed it will have a product specific program that they use

i was thinking the same thing mystic a device like dashboard to show signal strength e.t.c
They used a palmpilot and said that the signal was 5 out 7 ..i cant see that..

That signal strength sounds right to me so does that download speed.... I normally get closer to 60 constantly:)

Yes, like i said, I'm sure everything is fine....but it would still be interesting....I'm going to contact alvarion directly and ask them....If I can get SNMP to the device, I'll just write my own little dashboard app in C# or something

Was just browsing this thread - I am not sure why you would want to have the Signal strength - there are minimum requirements for an installation - the unit works like a cell phone and the signal to and from the ODU can vary but is set to operate within limits - as long as you are connected you "should" get a good signal

quick silly question can we use route sentry on Wimax as i have read that the modem has to be in some sort of mode to split int and local
..?

cool Norm thanks for the other day
what accounts are you using?

If you using Telkom WiMax, goto

Username: installer
Password: installer

Click on "performance monitoring", should show the signal strength and other details there.
Here's the status of my WiMax: http://ibit.co.za/wimax/signal.jpg

Hope it helps :)
