Signal surging

The encrypted messaging company Signal has long been popular with activists, investigative journalists, politicians and assorted law enforcement officials because of its emphasis on privacy and security. Its growth was steady—but slow. [Bloomberg]

What features are you missing?
Granted I last used/tested it in Jan so it is very likely more items were added in that 5 month window.

Simple stuff like pinning chats, online status & last seen, sticker packs (by no means a deal breaker), it also has smaller file size limits than even WA, no "Stories'' (some people do value that), live location sharing. Personally I find the UI pretty unattractive as well (YMMV).

(I may stand to be corrected on a few points in the preceding months since I last used it).

Deleted it just last week.

Aahh, the "Status". Why most won't go away from WA or Facebook for that matter. They need the validation and feedback from other people.....I mean, endorphins don't come by themselves.

I think @FiestaST meant online status for when someone is currently on the app.
There is no valid reason to move from WA, it works.

Still don't trust using it when my first interaction with it was a private gallery picture being used as an icon. It may be "secure" but security extends to the UI as well as it's far too easy to do something inadvertently when it's bad or just because someone made a mistake in the code. Someone here said it's the same as on WA but it's not, WA makes it clear it's showing you your gallery pictures in a separate area.

If moving from WA for whatever reason, Signal would be the best choice.
They’re similar but no surprise since the same people created both.

Being able to edit messages is the major win for Telegram over both of them.

Amongst many other features.
Sure but that feature can’t really work with E2EE but irrelevant for my point.

I prefer not having multiple silos for personal chats, so when everyone had BBM, I used only BBM.
Times have changed and that’s now WhatsApp.

That doesn’t solve stuff though.

It’s just a matter of necessity which it doesn’t deserve credit for.
Solve what though? It’s like the issue of community groups or company groups, that was never the purpose of WhatsApp.

For personal/private chats, WhatsApp is my only medium. For other things, I’ll meet people half way.
I won’t however degrade my experience to conform, ie. turning off read receipts etc.

I tried to message someone from Signal through Siri in Carplay the other day and she had no clue what to do. I was like, ok, bye-bye Signal. I'm just sticking with Whatsapp and Telegram now.

But WhatsApp doesn’t work with Siri either?

It does. I use it every day, she reads out messages I get and I can reply, or says "Whatsapp <contact>" and she will make a new message to them and send it.
