Hi,

I stay in 1 of the generic Baldwin apartment units, and currently have a 700W Mecer inverter with a single battery.

The unit works perfectly for what I need, Router, TV and a light or 2.
My biggest complaint is the loud fan, as a lot of people have complained in other threads.

I really want to get a installed unit, that I can tie into my DB, and have all the lights, and 2 plugs connected to it. I really only need about 1.5 KVA, so a 3 KVA unit it more then enough.
I have some experience with the Mecer/RCT unit. They are perfect for my needs, but because I don't have a garage or other suitable separate room, the unit will have the mounted in the lounge next to the DB with the batteries in a box at the bottom.

Space is not a issue, I can so a built in box etc, so it will be neat. My biggest concern is the noise these units generate (fans etc..)

Any "silent" units on the market? I do not need a solar charge module as I can only charge the unit from the mains.

Any ideas/links? Preferably a recommendation that someone has actually seen.... well heard....

All inverters have fans that goes up in speed and noise relative to the load. My brother has a 5kW Mecer, no fan noise on electronics and low loads, the fan starts up when a microwave or kettle is on, but it such a pleasant and very calming noise, a gentle whoosh compared to the buzzing of the modified inverters, I could live with it in the lounge.

Sorry I can by help but noise is an issue. My brother in law brought his inverter to my house for charging as they'd been off for days.

Shew, that noise was irritating.

It's not much of a problem if you have a garage or spare room.

It looks small enough so I've got space. Thank you Champles :) will check it out.

We had unexpected power cuts yesterday and today and only our router and a couple of lights are backed up.

Most people I know put the smaller Mecer ones in another room or area not frequented often and ran power cables to feed the devices.
we have ours in common areas and I can attest, the BUZZING noise when they’re working off battery is enough to drive you insane!

there is the Sunsynk 3.6 hybrid inverter which has no fan, just a massive heat sink. but you are probably looking at R16,000 upwards

Hi All,

For the Mecer wall-mounted inverter of 5KvA, would I be able to run a TV and a few lights (including 2 downlights in our passage...all bulbs I'd like to run are energy savers) along with powering my alarm?
And how many deep cycle batteries would be the minimum for storing what the inverter needs?

Being 48V so 4 x 12V lead acid or 1 x 48V LFP. I would go with LFP. Make sure LFP can do 1C discharge (4800W), but I doubt you would ever need it. It's generally frowned upon to use heavy draw devices like kettles, irons etc on these things as you'll deplete battery pretty quick.

You don't need a 5kVA for that, a 3kVA will do the job just fine, but it doesn't hurt having a bigger inverter for future expansion.

Great, thanks. Jeez batteries are expensive! But I will give this a look through.

We talking Trolly?

My Mercer 1440's fan is wispier quite... 41db on 10A and 49 DB on 20A (On a new unit) In fact is so silent that its right next to the TV:

I did see some reporting 50's on 10A and 60db on 20A setting.

I do recall someone in that thread reporting success by simply swapping the fan for a better one. That might also be an option. "Modding" with a better fan?
