I dial 140 from my cellc phone:
Our call center is experiencing high call volume and you may have to wait a little longer. If you can't wait then please email us.

To check you balance press 1
To return to the main menu press #
That's it? I mean I'm happy to wait but if I wait the voice prompt says 'Are you still there?' and proceeds to say 'Goodbye' and disconnects my call. Why tell me I might have to wait if I can't wait at all?

All I want to find out is whether my data will work abroad on a pay as you go sim or whether I need to enable intl. data roaming. I don't need to make calls/sms...just data for whatsapp.

It's unfortunate to hear about your experience with our call centre. Note that if you are on post paid, your data will work oversees provided you have activated international roaming. But, international roaming cost will apply.

Best way is to get a local sim card abroad, and load data. International roaming costs are exorbitant.

I was kinda hoping it wouldn't be too expensive. Will just use wifi hotspots then or buy a local simcard although I think I'll have to create a new whatsapp account which I'd rather not do...so, maybe wifi then :).
