Just wanting to find out if different sim cards can give you different speeds ? I hooked up with ECape on thursday afternoon to check my modem , any way to cut a long story short , we tried my E220 as well as his E270 , now the irony is , is that his sim (TV) gets 3.3mb/s in both modems , and my sim (32k) only gets 2.2mb/s . Both modems plugged into the same laptop on the same desk in the same office . How does that work because I have been told that the sim does not make a difference to the speeds obtainable , and if so what type of sim should I purchase next ?

Mmm... what's a TV SIM and where can I buy one?

I still use my 32K sim, have been doing so for the last 3 years or so, my cousin uses a 64K(3G) sim, speeds vary from time to time visa versa but the sim does NOT affect the max internet speed.
One sim was producing speeds faster than the other? you made mention that they were in the same laptop so they were not running simultaneously, one had to disconnect in order for the other to connect, maybe someone took the timeslot you were using at the time?

The sim you refer to as a TV sim is a 128K sim, each of these sims just vary in what they can do is all, TV sim was used in the mobile tv phones like the Sagem MymobileTV phone, 3G sim allows for video calling etc.

The only reason I have a 3G SIM is for Skype with a camera. It works better than the others. Video online seems to want the 3G.

Have experienced the same. My SIM always gets a connection at 3G speeds, my brother in laws goes GPRS at times. Swapped modems still the same. Where both on contract just mine is newer than his.

The question is ? Where do you get a 3G sim card on prepaid . I was at CNA today and all you get is 32k sims .

Yeah thanks , I will try the speciality shops . Problem is , is that you cant transfer data between sim's , Or can you ?

Gonna try and get another one today and load a bit of airtime and see if it makes any difference .
Will report back .

You should be able to get a 128K 3G USIM from an MTN Service Centre, there's one on the corner of 2nd Avenue and Cape Road in Newton Park.

Yeah thats what I thought , I could get a 128k sim from any MTN store but apparently only from MTN service centre 128 Cape Road .
