Today was my first direct experience with an illegal SIM Swap problem. I have several phones on my contract and one of these generated an official order number SMS from MTN, The next SMS stated that my new SIM(for that other phone) had been activated.
I rushed off to the local MTN store in Rosebank with great haste, to find that the someone at MTN Klerksdorp had done a SIM swap on one of my phone numbers. The store clerk voided the SIM swap in the store, this after an extensive security check. Apparently the SIM will be re-instated with my other cell number within 24 hours. I do have a bank account linked to that other number and I hope that the few nuts I have in my bank account will still be there when I get the number back.
Has anyone else in this community had a similar issue? Has anyone taken secondary precautions to protect their phone information if their pattern or passcode is breached? If so, what are these ?
