Hi All,

Could someone please provide some clarity on the following:

My wife has a TopUp contract with Voda and would like to perform a SIM swap to replace the current SIM card which is 6+ years old and is sometimes not working correctly in the phone with a new one.

I purchased a new SIM and called 111 to do the swap, only to be told that because she was on contract she would have to go in person with her ID etc to a Vodacom outlet and pay R62 to have it done.
If she was on prepaid however the swap could have been done there and then on the phone. When I queried as to why this was the case I was told that it was to prevent fraud.

Now I understand that there is the potential fraudulently take control of someone's contract but surely the same would apply to a user on prepaid?

As far as I can see it the only "criminal" act is on the side of Voda charging a fee to a loyal contract subscriber for the last 6 years to do something which should only take a few seconds on the phone.

Any help/info would be greatly appreciated

R62 is not bad, cost me R130 at MTN store. Normally a sim cost about R1. Totally ripping contract subscribers blind
