Can anybody comment on how long a SIM Swap sim card takes to become active? I did it last night at 8pm.

The person in store said 24-48 hours but I hope they just say that to cover their asses. I desperately need my phone for work :/

With which provider are you? I have noticed that the SIM swaps that get done with MTN over weekends (not always, but most times in my experience) only get done the following working day, i.e. today.

One of our iPhone contracts was sorted out late on a Friday, SIM swap went through only the following Monday afternoon. When my SIM was swapped, went in the morning, powered up the new phone and it was already active.

Had a similar experience with Voda recently, they were a little bit faster on the "weekend swap" though.

Our system actively delays sim swops for 2 hours. This is a security feature to prevent fraud and to give customers a chance to contact customer care after receiving the notification SMS that a sim swop in in progress on their line. I have found that the new sim will go live 2 hours on the dot after we processed this on our side. After two hours...please do a reboot of the device if you have kept it on the whole time as this will prevent the sim from registering on the network. If it is still not working, the sim swop most likely was never done and I recommend you query it with the shop.

I'm with Vodacom. Yup just got a call from them, apparently the person in store made a stuff up with the paperwork, so Vodacom haven't even done the sim swap yet :/

Will head through again after work. Hopefully I'll have my phone up and running later this evening. Thanks guys :)

Shops are able to process sim swops directly on the system for both contract and prepaid. No need to fax documentation through to Vodacom.

Well according to Vodacom, the contract is in my name, but the SIM card is in my mom's name (took the contract out under my mom's name and then had it trasnferred to mine, but I guess they never transferred the sim to my name.) So they require a copy of her ID now before they can do the SIM swap.

That makes no sense what so ever. Please PM me the number. I want to see what on earth they are talking about.

Something strange is going on. According to my system your mom is in her early 20's...and considering that you are of working age in your OP...I feel I have reason to be extremely concerned regarding this matter. :p

The name I have on the system is rather unisex...and the user name on the system is a Male...so not sure who is who. Can you please PM me your mom's name? If it is your mom's name as the contract holder, but your ID number...then it was a failed transfer of ownership and this poor contract is in Limbo..destined to never know where it belongs :p

Siiiigh. PM incoming :)

Responded. I would prefer that the ID number gets changed back to her ID number...as that is how it is supposed to be. There is no such thing as the contract being in her name and the sim being in yours. The two is linked. I honestly dont see how it could be that somone @ Vodacom put her as the contract holder and used your ID. The ID must always match that of the contract holder...in this case your mom. But as I said in the PM...as long as they do the sim swop. If I were the one helping you...you would have been in a world of pain because of the ID and Account name mismatch. I can be very pedantic with things like that :-)

Will the SIM swap show up on the system only once it's been completed and the new SIM is up and running? Or will it show up as pending before it is completed?

No....as soon as the sim swop is actioned on the sim a note is made that will tell me what date, time and new sim number. Then once the sim swop went through on node to node on the network...another note is made. No notes...no sim swop. You should also have received a SMS to warn you that a sim swop is in progress on your number. No SMS...no sim swop.

Unbelieveable! The people at Vodacom Canal Walk have no idea what they are doing. I haven't received a sms or anything.

I'm going to phone 082 111 and try and do it over the phone. If I have to go back to the Vodacom store for a 4th time I am going to lose my temper.

Just phoned 082 111. The lady I spoke to (very helpful btw) said the SIM swap was done at 09:11 this morning, so I should be up and running by 13:11 at the latest. Fingers crossed.
