Simcity 2013

I am very disappointed. I was so looking forward to this game but it is a DRM disaster. This is exactly the game I want to play offline but are forced to be connected all the time. WTF was EA thinking?! They are promoting piracy like nothing else I've seen. Nobody wants to pay R400 for this eff-up system of playing games. One pays R400 for an access token to play an online game here. Cities XL as proposed by AJ seems a far better option. EA can go to hell.

The problem with the game is that it is way too popular. Sure, EA should have known better. There should have been more servers, etc etc yada yada.

But if you leave DRM aside, there are huge benefits in 'forcing' people to play online. It creates a dynamic world where commodity prices fluctuate. That means that alloys and plastics are not going to be game breakers. It also means that each game will be different because you will be influenced by a 'global' market.

If we all played offline that wouldn't work.

And finally:

Then have two versions of the game. The offline one might not be the living organism the online version is but it is still good enough for most of us. If one were to play the game on a desktop machine sitting in the same room every time then fine, but I want to play on the move - on a long flight for example. I do not appreciate an always online Sim City offering like this (as someone who has grown-up with Sim City since the beginning). Just give us an offline "dumber" version and we will be happy EA. Sort the piracy issues out in some other way.

The Joke is the pirates already found a way to have an offline only version.

Shows you again where DRM hinders paying customers and the pirates getting a better experience, When will they learn!!!!!!

I am fairly sure that it is not beyond the skills to have a version that could operate remotely. Everytime that you do connect it could update prices.

I was trying to figure out if it would have impact on other players in the same region. But I don't see how because right now they may not be logged in when you are playing yet they'll still provide water and accept your sewerage.

Perhaps there is something else coming?

A waste of time and resources trying to combat piracy.

Thinking of getting this game. You guys think playing like an hour a week will still make this game worth while?

The only system that I find that works is freemium online for free. (Pay money for cosmetic changes)
Games like Path of exhile, Planetside 2, Hawken and so on seem to get it right. Just do not know how much money is in it and obviasly not all games are suited for the model. Also you get a ton of freemium titles that just sucks.

Like my brother said - he logged on to play for 5 minutes and next thing he had played through the night.

I don't know how you can play for just an hour a week. If you like SimCity you'll play a lot more than that. I thought that I had played for a few hours over the weekend - turns out it was around 20 hours.

Seems release #5 in the tech industry is cursed. Samsung should skip the Galaxy S V and go for S VI instead. iPad 5 ... ?

Do you own the game? Have you played the game?

Nope. Was planning to buy it last week but fortunately decided not to waste R400. I'm now waiting for it to appear in the bargain bin for R79.99.

So last night was a little annoying - I had a message telling me that the server was unable to process my city. 5 times! At least it was only about 10 minutes in but it did result in a complete reset back to where I started the session. Oh, and that was after some new patch. That wasted about an hour. I had to go out and when I got back about 2 hours later it seemed to have settled down. But traffic went batpoop crazy.

Education - having a university is meant to mean that the sims don't start fires accidently. I swear the little barstages are starting them deliberately then. I have had message telling me that arsonists from my nephew had moved in but that was afew days ago and I would have thought the cops would have dealt with them.

Annoying thing - I plopped a train station so people can commute in from out of town. It got rid of the tailback of people trying to get into my city. I was kind and gave them a bus depot but the ungrateful chops decide to walk.

Whats killing it for me is that people are reporting that the simulation is dumb and broken. I think reverting to SC4, or waiting for that new kickstarter project Civitas (but they have so little info so I'm not confident) is going to be the way forward for me

Im also thinking Civ4 with all the nice mods or just Cities XL on steam

Im enjoying simcity5 a lot i must say, but reading about the flawed simulation aspects, i dont wanna waste time on it
