Hi,
I noticed many different threads where people post their settings and line speeds, but we need a central thread with one post for each user detailing their line and it's performance in a standard format.
If there isn't already one, then I would like to start a simple comparison of our ADSL services.
Please keep the thread itself clean (PM me ideas on improving the thread)
Only one post per user containing these items:

  1. ISP and Service Info (Bandwidth, Cap, Shaped/Unshaped, Monthly Cost)
  2. Speed to closest Node (http://www.speedtest.net/)
  3. Speed to US New York Node (http://www.speedtest.net/ - Pick the Node that lists New York)
  4. Attenuation and Noise readings from your Router (e.g. http://192.168.1.1/setup)
  5. Ping result to Google.com (74.125.67.100) *not sure if there's a better IP to compare with.
  6. Tracing route to medusa.saix.net [196.4.79.10]
  7. (Optional)One liner explaining your experience with your browsing/gaming/whatever service. Also note if you think this would be a good Sticky if properly formatted and maintained.

*I used Snippy to capture the screen and imgur.com to upload.
*I will need your help to improve this and mold it into a good reference for everyone to enjoy.

Here's mine:

Telkom account:

  • 1. Telkom SAIX Shaped 512k

    2.

    3. N/A

    4. Pinging 74.125.67.100 with 32 bytes of data (International):

    Reply from 74.125.67.100: bytes=32 time=360ms TTL=48

    5. Tracert to a local SGS gaming server (ping doesn't seem to work) (Local):
    Tracing route to medusa.saix.net [196.4.79.10]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 - 18 ms 18 ms 16 ms [41.240.192.1]
    2 - 18 ms 18 ms 17 ms [196.43.10.86]

Extra: I use Telkom account only for gaming, as it gives the best latency.

And my SAOL account (Cybersmart)

  • 1. Cybersmart/SAOL 512k

    Tracing route to medusa.saix.net [196.4.79.10]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    2 - 58 ms 39 ms 38 ms [196.6.121.38]
    3 - 38 ms 39 ms 39 ms [196.25.247.97]
    4 - 61 ms 64 ms 65 ms [196.43.10.86]

Extra: This SAOL account is useless for local gaming. The sole reason for me getting a telkom account, as I enjoy my games. They also love to have technical failures on the last day of the month when your trying to blow your remaining cap. Only positive side, is higher (yet only some times) download speeds. If I try connect to the SGS server (I'm in PTA), its as if they route me all the way to capetown and back. Horrible, and more expensive. Damn contract.
