Simply Asia

Have seen 2 close down in Gauteng myself and have heard mention of others.
 
Ordered a cashew nut chicken thing but received beef instead. I was too hungry to care.

I paid R99 for the cashew nut "chicken thingy".

I don't know if it is just me but the standards of some of these franchises are really going down.

My Simply Asia noodle thingy looked and tasted unimpressive.

The noodles look and tasted like maggie 2 min noodles, the veggies tasted like frozen veg and the beef was as hard as rubber.

I would say that Simply Asia's standards are on par with Nandos but more expensive.

I ate that meal thinking "wow i can cook something tastier for cheaper"

I bought a little custard coconut milk bun thing for R20. It was ok but I was surprised by how small it was.

The Eastern Food Bazaar has an asian noodle area & my Simply Asia meal wasn't any better.

I thought Simply Asia was a premium brand/franchise. I was wrong.

The portion size seems to be on the small size. I was sufficiently full but I kinda expected more food considering the quality.

I would rather support a decent little asian restaurant.

Yeah, I tried to order a takeaway at marine circle one, they told me it's a minimum 45 minute wait. I obviously went somewhere else.
Eastern Food Bazaar is great though, huge portions, cheap while still being okay/better than some of the places around. Really like their egg fried rice.

I was actually shocked at how kak Simply Asia is.

What exactly are we paying for : their marketing, rent in affluent areas?

Will rather give the smaller privately owned Asian restaurants a try & places like Eastern Food Bazaar.
 
I have a different experience. Order the 505 chicken. Best meal ever. We Almost order it once a week at Willowbridge centre. Very tasty

I have also ordered Sushi from Simply Asia before & it was mediocre at best.

They are charging too much for food. The quality isn't there.
 
I'm quite surprised, I have had many meals from Simply Asia's all around, Somerset Mall a few times, Marine Circle a few times and West Coast Village and I've always had a nice experience. I found that their Thai green curry is far better than any other place I've been to.
 
Last time I went was probably 6 years ago. Ordered some duck meal, got 4 duck almost burned shavings the size of my thumb and some noodles for R100. They don't deserve to be operating and the market is highlighting that.
 
Thai Cafe in green side jhb outclasses SA in all aspects. Flavor, portions, right mix of spices and they make a real “Thai style” hot flavor . Pity there is only one branch though. I sometimes drives from centurion for their food. SA has lost the plot to the point of them being greedy. I don’t mind paying but I must not feed hungry after a meal.
