Hi there,
I would like to have a iburst connection for my home and my office.

Is it possible to use the same account and have a double simultaneous connection?
That is connect with the same account at the same time from my work and from my home?

Thank you for letting me know,

cheers.

Vincent :)

I've also been looking for an answer to a similar question for ages - my need is slightly different though.

I'm wanting to use the connection for remote admin of machines and the usage per machine will be changing month by month and i want all the machines to draw from the same data cap pool - but still be connected simultaneously...

any thoughts?

iburst does not allow concurrent accounts. the u/p are tied into the UTD

So would there be any way i could achieve what i'm wanting to?

Have asked WBS about this before. One cannot connect two machines outside of a network on two different modems, but on the same account simultaneously (IE having a modem at home and one in the office).

Ambo, my understanding is that all the machines can share the iBurst connection through a network. If you want to limit each machine to a certain amount of bandwidth (cap) you would have to run some form of bandwidth monitor on each PC that could allow you to prevent the PC from using more tha it's preset cap.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Sorry i don't think i explained very well...
I have a number of remote servers (ie pc boxes with no direct human interaction) that need to be remotely managed. Now with the current price of ADSL i can't afford to connect every box via telkom. And i'm exploring the other options - one difficulty is that the through put will be inconsistant: 50megs one month, 2Gigs another - depending on what updates need to be loaded to the machines.
I am looking for some method that all the machines will be drawing from one bandwidth pool - but all must be permanently online so that i can VPN or pcAnywhere into them at any time.
You follow?

I would personally use 3G, and buy data bundles to suit.

Yep I follow. However I am not that proficient in networking unfortunately so I would venture to say that you would need the assistance of someone who is. However if and when you do find the solution, please let us know.

Knowledge is power!:D

I have also been looking at that - but until the data vouchers are launched its going to be a case of changing the bundle every month to keep up with the needs... :frown:
And i don't fancy transfering 2Gigs at R2p/meg on a pre-paid...

Are your remote PC's in the same place?
No - thats the whole hassel - dozens of lone boxes all over the countryside.... At the moment we got a techie driving 100's of km's per day to check on them all.

so you just monitoring if they're up? or want something like say SSH access into them?

No i need to have SSH/Remote Desktop access to the boxes... and also ftp access to upload files onto the boxes (for updates etc)

i want to buy a new or secondhand modem not to use simultaneously but one to keep in the office for office hours and one to keep at home
Does anyone know where I can buy one from????

There were a couple for sale by some of the members here, but I think they may have been sold already.

Call WBS or one of their resellers. They should be able to help. You will then have to get WBS to activate the second modem on your account.

Hi helenwilson - as far as I know you can not log on to 2 modems using the same username and password.
I may be wrong but that is my understanding

There's a couple of options...

RAS (for each box or network)
Your own wireless VPN (using Fastnet or something similar)
If your files are not too massive, you can even look at something rather primitive, like analog leased line (33.6)
