I don't know. I am not sure about good quality brands but I have seen these Breville and they look like overpriced rubbish. (think @home sells them) In fact anything new under 15-20K is most likely rubbish. So I would look for a good second hand deal. Look on gumtree or OLX maybe? Don't get too excited buying the cheap stuff shown in OP.

I'm here :) as @RedViking said I do have some nice toys. Breville is your best bet at that range new. BUT if you take the time you can score beautiful machines from OLX/GUmtree but go look at them in person.

These are the lower end you looking at but it can be done with a few months patience.

Those are pressurised baskets not non-pressurised. This also depends on what you want at the end of the day.

Search Espresso machines

BEAST IF AVAILABLE (in your price range)

You get the gist they are out there

If I'm not mistaken, the grey haired lady in that vid is from Seattle Coffee. My main concern with second hand is mileage and serviceability. Hard to see scale build up in a sealed unit, etc. You have to go with your gut and what the seller tells you often.
Oh then that's Gayle :) I managed to snag a unused demo, but the reality is many ppl don't use it that often. Kill it for a month then gathers dust.

Oh and just my 2C I dont really like espresso whether it be from my machine or pro machines. If you didnt like them before the machine wont change that too much.

Agree. I do like an espresso but can't help feeling short changed so I'll usually go for a lungo, machiato or cappuccino
And nothing wrong with that. Enjoy and also splurge on some great cups. Got some nice le creuset myself

Any recommendations in the lower cost single cup espresso machines? No pod machines (unless it can do regular espresso ground too).
I'm leaning towards the Breville Venezia mostly because I like the look and have heard good things about it. I've looked at Smeg and others but don't want a rubbish brand or an overpriced brand.
R4k is the top end.

Thanks!

So I said I will never to get a breville.

I got this model (BES250 Cafe Venezia) secondhand for R800. Switched it on and it didn't work. Pressure was really low and I thought, flip, wasted my money.

Opened it up. Really surprised at how simple everything is inside. Anayways, one of the little tubes were blocked with calcium/lime build-up. (remember to descale you machines folks!)

Cleaned the pipe and pressure is pumping man! Wow!

Now just need a new steam ring/gasket (it leaks around the portafilter), as ring is damaged due to age and limescale build-up. Ordered new one through @home.

Also have a bracket inside the mahine that has a small leak and is corroded. This one might be difficult to fix depending on parts availability. In process to find a solution. So far I have received excellent service from my local @home branch trying to find a solution.

Anyways, I am extremely impressed with such an affoprdable machine and how easy it is to open up and service.
Steaming works great! (on some weekends I play on commercial machines). Machine literally heats instantly.

The espresso side is okay but because it leaks water is dripping together with the espresso. Hopefully fixed soon.

Oh! And here is an awesome website if you want to check the diagrams and spares for your machine (not to order).

First cup. Waterleak and all.

Picked up a Delonghi Dedica last week after my Jura gave up the ghost. Just the plain silver model.

I'm really enjoying this machine. It's thin and deep so it fits into our small Dutch kitchen area. And coffee quality is consistently good. I prefer not to have an AIO machine because of the maintenance and the lack of control.

I am surprised to see people not bothering to clean their machines and then the blame the manufacturer or brand for being rubbish or break easily. Reading reviews on some of the machine, most of the issues can be assigned to being stupid. Visited a friend also with a Breville. I took one look at the steam wand and asked if I can rather have a glass of water.

That looks nice. Remember to still maintain it.
