Single SIM for SA cellular networks planned

Interesting, they are a bit short on details regarding HOW they would do this though....

Most likely a case of being technically possible but a non starter in reality due to a complete lack of willingness of the various networks to play ball.

What I really want is a backdoor SIM that piggy backs onto the network you choose, allocates itself a temp number and allows unlimited calls and data usage totally free of charge.

The Pirate SIM.

Arrrr.

Criminal in and of itself and perfect for all types of crime. I think it would be HEAVEN.

Cannot see this getting of the ground any time soon but like the direction this is heading in....

Seamless hand over!! Not going to work.
Vodacom does not like to share......

Yep, Vodacom said that it has a policy of no revenue sharing with employees, so it is safe to assume they will also not share revenue with other companies.

This idea is born dead. The large corporations will definitely not come to the party.

Hmmmm, I would like to know how this system can prevent scamming and not yet again provide another security risk?

Excellent idea, why didn't they think of this before everyone else got greedy? My concerns however are, 1) QoS due to oversubscribed channels, 2) other providers not playing ball because their services are not used due to their pricing, 3) underutilization of resources (not that I'm worried about this), 4) cheating or fraud in the background (user is not in control of selection of provider), 5) who consolidates billing? I know it's still a concept, but more info to address all concerns might be helpful.

I know that there is a company developing a multiple-SIM NFC device, which would also enable multiple internal/external storage methods. This is also a possible security concern in regard with multiple secure elements, but this product is still in early test phases and it is not being developed locally. Basically this is a single device to host all your networks...

hmmm, technically this is quite difficult, but do-able. Buy-in from the networks will be the key, and user experience will go down the toilet. If you think call setup times are too long now, this idea will make it even worse.
