I want to work on a playlist of songs from artists I typically don't listen to in a broad sense, but who have that one song everybody knows. Not just a list of singles though, and I would imagine this thread is basically going to boil down to 'my favourite song thread', but what the hell.

The song that got me wanting to do this:

Sticking with the 80's theme you've established with Golden Brown -

Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Come on, Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
Mickey - Toni Basil
99 LuftBallons - Nena
In a Big Country - Big Country
Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
You Spin Me Round - Dead or Alive
Pass The Dutchie - Musical Youth
St Elmo's Fire - Michael Parr
Turning Japanese – The Vapors

Those are the ones I remember from my VH1 one hit wonders thing...will check my mp3 player for more.

Oasis, Queen, Bob Marley, The Beatles have lots of songs that people know, ya noobs.

That is a great, great song. I remember SABC having a cricket montage thing they used to play when it was raining set to that song...was very emotive.

Yeah I remember. Have tried to find it online actually but no luck

Also, it is of course bound to be the fact that some of the artists will indeed have many well-known songs; I'm also using this as a way to possibly discover some new artists I was previously not as acquainted with as I ought to have been.
