Sinking into Eskom's black hole

It is a very apt title for this thread.
Will Eskom be able to recover from this fiasco?

What I don't understand is that most major construction builds like this have penalties for not delivering on time. Why did eskom not have such clauses for these power station builds with the contractors?

I'd guess the longer it takes to build, the longer they can collect their monthly kickbacks

Because it's being built by friend and family owned companies?

This should be a number one priority for Jacob Zuma's ANC led Government, and they do not even seem all that bothered and instead just wants to throw more money at the problem, knowing it will just be solving the problem temporarily. I am sure most South Africans that are not ANC supporters, will even pledge their support to the ANC if they can turn this sinking ship around. I am unfortunately never going to vote ANC again!

Please acknowledge that we are in a National power crisis and seek outside intervention, stupid Jacob Zuma! Your inability to provide South African public with answers is just pathetic. Seriously, how much more does the normal SA citizen have to SUFFER for Eskom?

Put down that cookie jar and help us resolve this obvious National Power Crisis as there is no way to stop time from running out without any real action and intervention from one or a few of our country's international allies, like the US, etc..

I would not say never to voting ANC again...any effective governance deserves to be voted for. So all they would need to do is demonstrate good governance...get rid of the rot and actually make positive decisions geared at improvement rather than lining their back pockets. No one would want to replace a government that actually does a good job at managing the country.

They've had over 20 years for that.

I believe the ANC through Chancellor House has/had a stake with boiler contractors(Hitachi?).That about sums it up.

That's irrelevant...if a Mangaung-style cleanout happens and capable leadershio is installed that makes positive strides before the next general election, would that not indicate a sea change?

I would still vote opposition to keep closing the gap between ruling party and opposition but the next election after that would probably be the first time I would have an actual choice to make (assuming both opposition and ruling party had demonstrated effective, positive leadership in that time).

That's the best case scenario I can come up with that sees me still in the country for 2 more elections.

Let's face facts.... We keep flogging a dead horse here....
"Remove the rot"
It ain't gonna happen, rotten folk ain't gonna just leave of their own accord.....

There be only one way that this fairytale is gonna end.....and nobody want's to admit it....

Armed revolution....,.

:wtf:

DRC, Ivory Coast, Liberia and so on. How long before we add South Africa to that list; it seems to be an African tradition.

That's wishful thinking, history usually tells us if they haven't made positive strides over 20 years then they are unlikely to do so over 3 or 4 years.

India built a power station in 4 years.
And on budget.
This bunch has no will to do anything right.

Have you guys on a daily basis compared the headline stories on News24 and The Sowetan, for example......?

All the "lighter" folk have the energy crises right up there, with tons of comments, whereas on the Sowetan, the same topic usually appears down the bottom somewhere with a couple of user comments...

Just an observation.....
