Anyone have an opinion on this? On promotion @ R3299 at Makro.

Looking for a smallish TV for a kitchen.

The brand and 1000:1 contrast ratio is a huge concern, but LED and Full HD speaks to me

Will mostly use for DSTV and an HD media box.

Would usually buy a Samsung or Sony, but it is hard to find the small sizes.

Nothing wrong with Sinotec. They use last generation Samsung/LG panels, and carry a 5 year warranty in SA.

Do you really need an LED for the kitchen, surely its just something you glance at every now & then :erm:
Don't tell me its going to be connected via RF

Gatecrasher - don't get the sinotec, get this:

Samsung 27 inch WIDE LCD
FullHD (1920 X 1080), 2MS (GTG), 70000:1 Contrast Ratio, Analogue/DVI, Tilt Stand, MagicBright3, Rose Black

R 3,133 incl.

or

BenQ 22" LED, FullHD @ R1599 (On this weekend only i think)

Keep in mind that those are monitors and not TV's. No speakers, no tuner etc. I may be mistaken, but Gatecrasher wants a TV.

Thanks for the input, guys. It would need to have RF, Pbyr, and HDMI inputs. Specifically a TV with tuner. It will ultimately go on a swivel wall mount.

I will go and eyeball it today, before I make a decision.

Oh, right - sorry.

He did say "HD Media Box" though.... :o

what's that gatecrasher? a home-made PC or a set like medi8tor/popcorn/etc ?

if it's a pre-built set you might be able to plug your dstv into it and output via hdmi? (don't know i don't have one)

At that size, Full HD is useless... Rather get a 32" HD Ready Sammy B350; around R3999...

Full HD is useless for that size, unless you're sitting within 1 m of it.

"LED" in this case won't make a huge difference.

The contrast ratio is pretty standard.

32" is just too big for the available space. 26" might be okay, though.

Went to Makro. It is a very slim, neat set, but with typical Makro efficiency, had a technical problem, and they couldn't/wouldn't show me a picture on it. No way I'm buying it if I can't see the picture.

Good plan...

Saw those at our local Makro - picture looks brilliant but the small size irks me - want something bigger for my bedroom.
