Has anyone bought this TV? On paper it looks great, especially the price R19999 at makro with a 5 year warranty. I heard they use a Samsung panel ...

I will watch mostly DSTV on the tv (Will get HD during the next 6 months, when they have more channels) Realistically I can imagine that Standard def. viewing will be 90% of the time.

How does the upscaling of SD programming look on the Full HD panel? How does the response time look with a Blu Ray PS3 look?

Any feedback or info will be appreciated, since the TV is on special until 11 August, I need to decide this week.

I personally own the 42" Full HD LCD, and it's great.

having said that, if ur gonna watch TV on it mostly, especially Standard Def, I would rather recommend a Plamsa Screen.

I'm sure you would pay less too, and it should have better quality with DSTV...

Best is to go to macro and see for yourself...

I use mine for my PC Screen and play blu-ray/games/etc and it rawks! but for TV, im not sure (I watch series on my PC, no TV needed for me) what it looks like...

So, get a plasma!

Get the 46 inch Samsung full HD from Game rather, or buy them both, as both shops
have 7-14 day returns for full refund and compare em side by side (could
get a bit difficult) but its your best bet, you'll know if
you want BIG and brand name vs HUGE and no-name brand FOR THE SAME PRICE :).

I've been looking at a Philips 47" LCD TV for about the same price. I've seen a couple of them at our suppliers and the quality looks great!

My problem (if you can it that) is that I currently have a Samsung 60" rear projection TV and it will be difficult to "downgrade" to a small 46". I have emailed Makro and asked them to confirm their return policy. The best way will be to buy it, test it for 12 days (DSTV, DVD PS3 etc) and then take it back if it does not live up to expectations.

I thought LCD TV's were capped at like 42" after that you have to go Plasma? Guess not...

There is a lot of Sinotec owners on the forums and Ive only heard good things from them...

The normal SD channels of DStv looks terrible on this screen due to the amount of upscaling this screen must do in order to fill the screen. The upscaling itself must be going through very poor circuitry, because you cannot even identify the faces of rugby players on the screen.

The HD channel looks acceptable, but still not anywhere close to what you were hoping for when shelling out R20K for a screen this size.

Also, I would recommend against buying TVs from Makro Centurion. Their sales staff could not be lees keen to assist you, and it takes at least an hour for them to do the transaction and locate a unit for you, after which you will be told to go and collect it yourself at their warehouse at a different location.

The warehouse staff is not any better, and will simply grab the order sheet from your hands and proceed to load the box directly onto your bakkie from the forklift.

On this occassion, when we finally arrived home with it and proceeded to open the box, there was a second-hand or previously returned monitor inside, covered with dust and scuffmarks, no cables and no batteries for the remote control.

Needless to say this one was returned to Makro again, without any apologies from their side for their mistake in giving us a second-hand one, or ANY willingness from them to assist us in getting this monitor back into the store from the back of the bakkie.

If you're a DSTV subscriber you can buy a 40 inch Sony Bravia from Makro for
R11.000 (after the R2000 discount).

I have a 52' Philips LCD TV, SD DSTV really looks pathetic and I was very dissapointed. Got the HD PVR in the same week and it looks amazing now. Even the non-HD dstv channels look good.

I would say you have to get an HD-PVR decoder along with the TV if you want to watch DSTV.

...and becareful of suppliers trying to push outdated products like they are current models.

These high range TVs are getting cheaper maybe one day I can afford one

Tafelberg Furnishers have the 42 inch Samsung 4 series A410 Plasma for R9999. Nice:) And with the Rand now getting weaker, new, imported stock is only going to get more expensive.
