Sinotec TV and Seagate HDD - no recognition

Hello - I'm hoping somebody would be able to help me with my current problem!

I'm trying to connect a powered Seagate Wireless 1TB via USB to my newly purchased Sinotec 39ME82. It seems like the TV recognize that something has been plugged in. But when I'm trying to access the different folders on the HDD it's as if the connection is lost

I've tried connecting another USB device, which works fine! The HDD is NFTS and so is the USB device. Can it have something to do with the version of USB?? The TV is 2.0 and the HDD is 3.0.

I had endless issues with a USB3 bay on my pc until i used the USB 3 port, so yeah it could be an issue

Could also have to do with the number of folders on the HDD. I know some devices get whacky when there are to many and wont work.

In my experience using various hdd brands on my LG tv, it's a hit or miss, some work and others don't.

I've had one hdd that when you plug it in, it reboots the tv, then tv semi switches on, hangs, reboots, that repeats until you unplug the hdd.

Not sufficient power. Try self-powerd hard drive or self-powered USB hub (assuming TV supports hubs).

Are you sure that TV supports it? Just because a TV has a USB port doesn't mean it'll work.

I only say that because I have an older Sinotec (32" LCD) and it has a USB port, but it states in the manual that it only supports MP3's and JPG's.

try plugging a flash drive in to the tv - see if it recognizes it & is able to read content.

i suspect the tv requires storage media to be fat, not ntfs,

Save yourself some hassles and get a pc for a media server. If you don't want to spend a couple k then get a Raspberry PI with Open Elec SD card. It boots directly into xbmc media player and you can control it with a gamepad. Mantech Electronics sells them for ~R700 excluding psu but you can use a usb cellphone charger to power it.

Or you can get a ITX bundle and load ubuntu on it which has xbmc in its repository. I've seen them for around 3k.

Yeah - tried to decrease the number of folders to see if it would work, no success! Unfortunately..

This seems to also be the real issue here - however my TV finds the HDD, but when I'm trying to access it the TV turns off, including the HDD, before rebooting again..

This happens even though I've plugged in the "self-power line" on my HDD, but I guess the USB charging feature overrules the other!

#5 - I have tried to turn on the HDD both on it's battery but also when it is plugged into the wall charger, but as I've mentioned, the USB charging feature might overrule the other?? Is that even a thing though??

#6, #7 - I've tried a small USB flash drive, in both FAT32 and NFTS, both times the TV recognized them. And I have already watched some different types of movie files, especially .avi!

#8 - Yeah, you can never have too many gadgets anyway!!

Sounds like a power problem. You could try with another portable external.

A Samsung, Sony or LG would not have these problems...

It could be also size of the drive which matters. If you delete partition and create single 4GB primary partition, it might be recognised. Some DVD players accept maximum 8GB, 16GB sticks do not work.
