Sinotec tweaks

Hey guys!
My dad currently has the black 42" full HD model. Not the highest quality of screens compared to more well known brand. Iv been playing around with it though.

1. For all you guys complaining about DSTV SD quality do not try and use the composite output. Try use component or s-video. If you take the yellow composite video cable and plug into the green component input on the tv you will see the tv adjust and on the upper right hand display "570i", the pic may be in black and white but the picture quality is immensely sharper. This will give you an idea of what the SD channel can do. Hence why i recommend you go composite/s-video if you can or obviously HDMI if you have the HD PVR decoder.

2. Distance is important, the larger the panel the further you away you should site. This screen i think sitting about 3.5m away from the panel should improve your viewing. Our T.V was mounted on a temporary stand that was only a meter or so away from the couch, but it makes sense... further away you are the better the viewing.

3. Get a plasma for you SD viewing needs. Gaming wise iv had no issues on this screen but a sammy/sony have immensely better constrast. Its the differences between the colours and the black colours that really make the image pop. Sinotec mostly looks washed out/faded.

For SD viewing its absolutely ribbush, gaming its it actually quite good and viewing HD content that you have downloaded. I brought my 40" samsung over to compare it and on a SD channel i will admit that its about more or less the same on some channels but on MM1 where the signal is less compressed there is a notable difference. My sammy doesnt suffer from shadowing like the sinotec does. Brand new high quality cables were purchased for the sinotec aswell.

Value for money... good! Quality for HD content/gaming... good but once again contrast comes into play here and my sammy just owns it but dont get me wrong i would have 0 complaints if i used it as a gaming tv.

well for bang for buck, it most definitely is not bad.

nothing wrong with samsungs/lg's - if you think that 20k extra is gonna make your SD signal look like blu-ray, go ahead....

hahaha! Welcome keeper :)

My dad purchased the screen for general tv viewing, you know for watching soccer, movies etc. I know it all boils down to signal quality for MC and it blows... hard! All im saying is that there is a notable difference on the less compressed channels via SD. Then again these channels are being viewed via composite out so i presume the res it at 480, the composite/HDMI/S-video on the other hand bumps it up to a slightly higher rez.

If someone bought me this tv just for gaming i would have 0 complaints. MGS 4 on the screen via HDMI looked outstanding. It all boils down to preference/cash. Im sure if you had more cash you would go for a more well known brand? I got a sammy purely because i use a Samsung T260 as a pc screen and am still extremely impressed with it. So i thought... "Hey, if they can make a great pc screen im sure their LCD tv's must rock as well" which they do :)

Well actually no - I had to choose between a 32" Samsung/Sony with a resolution of 1366x768 or something, and a 42" Sinotec at 1920x1080 - was roughly at the same price at that time.

I use it for downloaded HD Series/content, blu-rays, and Gaming at 1080p over HDMi. 0 complaints.
(and DVDs look great too)

I don't watch SD stuff unfortunately, but if you need to do that, i'd suggest you get a plasma anyway - probably a samsung.

But to be frank here guys - unfortunately in SA your samsung/LG LCD's isn't gonna be looking as awesome as the HD Demo's they play in the store either... none of them are running at full potential.

Nevermind, i had to force it set the ps3 to 720p to make it look decent. MGS 4 is in full 1080 awesomeness. Xbox 360 over the composite looks horribly washed out, will try over VGA later

The actual resolution doesn't change - composite, s-video and component are just different analog interfaces.

Ok GTA on Xbox via Composite looks washed out as mentioned above.
i dont know....oh and Bad Company is just k@k - but someone mentioned earlier it seems to be the game itself.i dont think think the Sinotec can handle intense action like a Fps?

Hd rips, dvds and general movies are awesome and the output from Laptop to Tv is still kicking serious butt.i need to hook up my buds Ps3 sometime and check what it looks like because i generally havent been to happy with the quality.i think the FPS on the tv just cant handle alot of the games :( eish
