The LG on special for R6000.... we have one. Absolute dream of a TV. It's been on the market for around 16 months now and is still the best selling LCD TV on the market. Check the contrast ratio- 15k:1 against the Sinotech's 2k:1.... HUGE difference.

The LG has a 1 year guarantee, as does Sony, Samsung, etc... but the Sinotech has a 5yr guarantee.. as does Sansui.
LG surpasses Sinotech in every aspect by a million miles. Ask anyone.

Well, depends - Contrast ratio is a gimmick - maybe check what resolutions each lcd supports.

what you gonna use it for? TV or PC ?

There are quite a few advocates of Sinotec LCDs on this forum. Do a search.

What's the price of the next size up Sinotec?

that sucks - rather save up and get a full HD 42" Sinotech - got one and have no problems with it.

probably not reputable sources, but hey, interesting reading :D

A good contrast ratio to have in an LCD TV is 1,500:1 or higher. Anything less than 1,500:1, especially on a set that is 32-inches or larger, may not provide an optimum viewing experience.

Big numbers sell better, and manufactures know this very well. It applies to all areas in the manufacturing industry.
To better understand the impact of the presence of light in a room on the contrast ratio performance of an imaging device, it is sufficient to realize that with the light emitted by just one candle in a room - that's just one LUX - there would not be any difference between a 500:1 and a 5000 or even a 10,000:1 contrast ratio!

hmmm, interesting :)

In that pricerange get the Samsung, quite a few places have them for under R6k, phone Alex.

Sinotec might have the best guarantee, but side by side with a better panel you will see the differance. AFAIK Sinotec/Logic/Sonic/whatever all use LG 1st gen panels, something like that. Also build quality not that hot, cheap looking plastic.

I was in a similar situation a few weeks ago, ended up getting the Sony Bravia S-series - compared to the others I was looking at (samsung/lg/sharp) picture quality was way better aswell as better audio and build quality.

A little bit of both ! i think

i have a lg 32lb9...i love it very happy for it and i paid 6k for it....its great...

In my own experience, the five-year Sinotec guarantee was the deal-clincher. Effectively that means the set is guaranteed pretty much through its expected lifetime, which is fairly unbeatable -- even if other sets might offer slightly better pictures (though I failed to see much difference when comparing on the shelf).

Sinotech uses a Sammy Panel. and LG Sucks.

Not by a long shot, mate.

not a bad lcd - but to each his own. the bravia's that were in the sinotech's pricerange was smaller, older model, and had k@kka resolutions, where the sinotech supported Full HD (unless you wanna spend 3 times the price)

I was waiting for your Sinotec rules post :D
Your Sinotec is probably one of the best value panels around I will agree but go take a look around at some of the others, especially the 32" and 37" models which the OP was interested in.

Yes if specs, and prices are mostly the same, go with samsung (I heard sharp is pretty good too...)

but if the specs are better, and for much cheaper - it's gonna be more bang for ur buck - unless you're a brandname freak.

Go with Lucky GoldStar.

Avoid Sinotech, Sonic, Sansui, etc.

Always go brand name, even if a bit more expensive. If you can't afford,
wait a little bit (6 months) and re-evaluate the prices of the brand name sets again.

My 5c.

Sharp is not officially supporting LCDs in SA. Grey import.

Sharp LCDs are great. Better value than Sony - so for the price an
Aqos set will look better than Sony.

any reasons why, maybe to back up your statement?

Fella's, i'm telling you - don't look at the logo - i'm into Graphics and advertising and trust me when I say look at the specs.

When buying a Hard Drive you look at how much space you can get for ur buck. you don't but 2x1.5TB drives at a total of R8000 when you can get 3x1TB's for R5000.

simple calculation:
money/specs = bang for your buck
1.5TB = R2.60 per gig
1.TB = R1.60 per gig

it's a bit more difficult to calculate on an LCD, but you can sorta see what is the best bargain. i'd personally rather go for a 42" 1920x1080 Full HD Sinotech @ R9000 than a 42" 1366x768 HD Ready Sony @ R13,000+

(Not real prices, just making a point)

There is a lot more to LCD TV's than size & resolution, yes panels do have some kind of parity but their processing engines don't.

You can't simply compare LCD TV's to harddrives.

Hence my advice to wait and re-evaluate in 6 months time. Brand name items have a company reputation behind them. Cheap Chinese knock-offs don't.

Also while u do pay a bit extra for the brand, there invariably is always something extra in the specs you pay for. The 15000:1 dynamic contrast ratio of the Sinotech beats the 1000:1 ratio of the LG but you may
later find out that the way the 15000 is measured it would amount to
500 if done the same way as the LG.

My advice is based on my years as a tech consumer. I go for brand - almost always after researching the options and if I can't afford something from say Pioneer, I don't buy Sansui but wait a bit longer instead. In my experience it was always non-brand name equipment - made in and QC'd by China to be
cr@p. My brand name stuff made in Korea and Japan, and that made in
China but by a Korean or Japanese company has never failed me.

No thanks I'd take the Sony for the same reason I'd take a 1.4 Polo over a 1.6 Tata.
