I did my self-install on wednesday and i noticed that before i went through and verified the installation using the www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl url that my router was advertising a link speed of 4mb which was weird considering i had ordered a 384k line. I did a few tests to telkom related stuff considering you can access all of that before you verify the line and it was definately synched at 4mb.

So then i go ahead and do the verification and it confirms i ordered a 384k line and tells me to reboot the router. So after a router reboot it syncs at 384k.

So does that mean they are using software to control the line speeds that we are getting?

I just found it a bit weird that it changed the line speed after the verification.

Has anyone else noticed this before?

Yup.. thats wat they do...
I didnt verify for 7months last year.. and was getting 512kbps when I was suppose to have 128kbps at the time.... so I didnt complain.
To be honest... I didnt even know I was suppose to verify, but telkom cut me off after 7months and then I had to verify, after which I was cut to 384kbps (which was the then minimum speed)

Think telkom made a boo boo with me originally, and took 7months to notice it.

Yeah, I noticed that too, thing is, if you don't verify, you only have access to www.telkom.co.za

line went from 3.xxMB odd down to the correct 384.
