Wow.
Just got an iPhone 5 and playing around with Siri.
I must say that the function works extremely well.
I love it when u try and insult Siri and the wisecrack replies.

It's cool to mess around with, but I fund very little practical value in it.

I find Google voice search is a lot quicker and more useful. Siri is a lot more fun though - ask Siri what the airspeed velocity is of an unladen swallow. :D

Google Now / Voice whatever blows Siri right out of the water.

I dont know hey. I been trying google now and just not getting the same word recognition as siri. My friends just speak normally to siri and it recognizes everything. Google now gets so many words wrong.

Maybe i am doing something wrong?

You must set Google voice search language to English (US), if it's on English (South Africa) it is absolutely useless.

Was doing a few tests now, Google Voice search is just miles better than Siri with regards to useful information.

Came up with 10 questions to compare. Google wins 8 / 10.

1. Who is the lead singer of INXS? (And yes, pronounce it like you would normally).

2. In which year did South Africa become a republic?

3. Who invented the cathode-ray tube?

4. Who directed "The Shining"?

5. How far is to Johannesburg?

6. What is the total mass of the sun? (Yay, Siri wins here, finally!)

7. Who is the drummer for Def Leppard?

8. What was Einstein's famous equation?

9. Show me pictures of dogs in superhero costumes.

10. What does the abbreviation SLR stand for? (Another win for Siri!)

its just all down to if you like Apple or Android.

I like both operating systems but I think Google voice search is a lot more useful. Maybe if I was a 16 year old girl that wanted to ask relationship advice from a phone then I may have liked Siri more.

I find Siri absolutely invaluable while driving.

Not always accurate but works well enough, especially when setting reminders for myself.

Not true. I came from an iphone 4s to an S3 (android), i still have siri on my iPad and I still say Google is better.

I haven't used google voice search but isn't that just limited to Internet searches.
With Siri u can use for many other purposes eg to calculate a sum, add a memo or reminder etc.

Can do that stuff with Google Now / Google Voice on Android also.

If you know how to phrase the question siri can, and did, answer all 10.

And I tend to agree siri is really handy once - particularly when driving - TBH it's the only time I wouldn't feel like a uber nerd using it. :D

That said there is certainly room for improvement.

Siri's real power is that it can understand instructions like "Remind me to buy milk when I leave home tomorrow" and automatically add a location sensitive reminder for tomorrow that alerts me to buy milk when I leave the house. As nicely as Google can search based on voice, it just doesn't have anything like this integration with Android.

How would you phrase it differently? I can get the answer from Siri, but it asks me if I want to search the web for the answer and doesn't give it to me directly like Google does.

I just did exactly this. No problem. Created an event for tomorrow.

Did your Siri understand INXS? Mine kept on spitting out "in excess".
