does it need to be a laptop?

for 10k you can get a power house pc which will be awesome to run those applications

Agreed. You can get a pretty nice laptop for R10k but it might not quite be suitable for Coral and Photoshop.

for 10k you can get a 22" monitor plus a quadcore system

i dunno hey corel and photoshop on a 15.4" screen does not sound fun at all, plus slow

yikes

Yeah...22", Quad core, a nice chunk of RAM, descent mobo and other bits and bobs and you're laughin'. Don't know how heavy photoshop and coral is on graphics cards, but even a simple one will be better than what you find on cheaper laptops.

I dunno about slow and all hey. I have an Core 2 Duo HP 15.4" laptop with Nvidia graphics, around a year old. I run massive applications on mine. Forget about Photoshop and Corel Draw... those feel like notepad on my laptop.

froot, Photoshop can get quite resource intensive! Why do you think high end Macs are so popular? And even with those, rendering a picture can take quite some time.

Photoshop uses mass amounts of RAM. My sister uses it heavily and images can easily be in the range of 1GB per image when scanned from the scanner and when you're doing processing on it.

froot what programs do you use that are more intensive that photoshop

antowan as far as i know mac are using core 2? so mac's are now really expensive pc's with a different OS

i processed a 2 gig file today (still small) on my 3.6ghz quaddie, 4 gig mem and raptor raid

do you think your laptop could have even come close froot? i reckon your lappy would take about 5x as long as my system

If it has to be a laptop, make sure it has 2 gigs of ram and comes with a built in graphics card and it should run almost anything without to much of an issue.

She should use a normal 'high' end customly built PC for those appz, not a laptop :(
