Sit-down restaurants propose a solution to allow for alcohol consumption

Last week saw restaurant reopen for sit-down customers in South Africa, having being closed for three months due to lockdown.

Solution:

“We ask that sit-down dining establishments that already have ‘On Consumption’ liquor licenses be allowed to serve alcohol – with reasonable regulations,” it said.

These sit-down restaurants would agree to limited hours for the sale of alcohol – between 12h30 and 21h00 is suggested – and all alcohol sales would have to be accompanied by meal orders.

Alcohol sales would also be limited to beer and wine only as these are the drinks most commonly paired with food, it said.

I've actually just answered my own question. When I usually go out with them, I never order food!

Depends. I had a friend, alcoholic, and he only drank. Very seldom ate. Eventually it killed him.

Yup.. I see this going the same way alcohol sales went. All fine and dandy with restrictions and then hospitals overflow with even more alcohol related cases and the association for restaurants come out to complain about its patrons etc.

End of the day, do you really trust people to be responsible? I don't as historic data suggest this has never worked.

No. If they can only be half full then they should only allow entry to people who accept the responsibility to eat twice as much as the normal person and also drink twice as much. DO YOUR CIVIC DUTY!!!11!!!

Its difficult to introduce alcohol in restaurants. You have to think of the important, critical factor it will play in healthcare -> cutting profits from the illegal alcohol trade & shebeens half the Gov MP's are involved in.
