Sit-down restaurants propose a solution to allow for alcohol consumption

Except a slice of toast will probably cost you R20
Agreed, for low-budget drinkers a "plate of chips" is what it will take to serve alcohol. And why not? It's carb-loaded and fatty, just the right thing to slow alcohol to the brain.

one of these days Ill understand the fascination people have with Booze,

guess I grew up wrong.
It's not a fascination, for some it's just a part of the overall gastronomic experience.

Personally, I cannot imagine consuming a rump steak without a glass of Merlot, lamb cutlets without Shiraz / Pinotage, or a delicate Kabeljou without a good Riesling. And then there's the deserts, some will go crazy after anything sugary, personally I prefer Port or Marsala with cheese, followed by Espresso and Grappa, or a very good brandy, like 1920.

Alcohol complements a good meal.

Restaurants make a ton of money from excessively priced drinks alone (70% as per article).

So I imagine that is going to be the biggest nail in the coffin if it continues.

Friend owns a pub/restaurant, it's actually not worth it to open for him. The staff are not happy.

never saw the appeal TBH, tried with and without, and all I found with is just feel worse, not better after Booze.

I guess its a generation thing, certain Generations don't enjoy Booze and that's about it.

cant be I'm the only tetotaller?

Beer and wine only. WTF ? I enjoy a whisky with my food. And no alcohol after the meal. WTF ? That's when you sip on a nice liqueur like Frangelico.
This is just plain stupid. Hey you fcknuts in fancy suits p!ssing out my tax money: Because you are bloody idiots don't think the rest are equally stupid.

Yeah just beer and wine is fscking stupid... Either can serve all alcohol or just don't waste your time.

Especially since I'm not a beer drinker, and there is no bloody way I'm going to my local and ordering some food and a few glasses of whatever horrible box wine they have in the fridge... I want decent drinks to go with my plate of chips :D
