The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) will be hosting a Free Open Source Software (FOSS) Day at Centurion Auditorium on Friday 22 May 2009. The SITA FOSS Day provides a forum where vendors and stakeholders in government are able collaborate on FOSS solutions in accordance with the South African Cabinet mandate of 2007 which encourages the use of open source software in the South African government.
The topics to be discussed at the workshop include:
The forum hopes to provide the platform where vendors and government will be able to acquire and develop solutions to build the FOSS ecosystem in government institutions in South Africa. SITA has already conducted FOSS readiness assessments in 10 government institutions in the past financial year and is looking to collaborate with vendors in delivering these solutions.
