Hi folks

As you will notice I have changed the site somewhat to include a section on donations-advertising and a wiki and an improved speed test page (thanks to TheRoDent for making his test available to MyADSL). The wiki will be under guidance of Antowan and we hope it takes off and serves the purpose of answering some questions about ADSL and other broadband services in South Africa. Most of you know about the need to cover some costs regarding hosting etc. and this was the reason for the donations-ads section. I will try to avoid advertising as far as possible but it might prove to be a good way to provide long term financial stability to MyADSL. I can guarantee you that this is not a way for me or anybody else to gain any financial benefit from the site, but simply a way to cover some costs incurred lately and pay for future hosting. It will also never be intrusive advertising and members will get preferential treatment if they would like to advertise on the site [:D]

As promised here are some stats about the traffic for the last month (25 April – 24 May 2004):

Total hits: 1159782 (1.15 million)
Total bandwidth used: 10716 M

I will try to compose a more detailed report soon.

Hi RPM,

I just tried to set up a beneficiary in Standard bank Internet banking and 008749 returns "The branch code you have entered for this beneficiary is invalid. Please re-enter and try again", whilst 00008749 or 00874900 (standard expects 10 digits) responds with "You have not entered a correct Standard Bank branch number".

I have a feeling that ABSA use a single IBT number for all electronic transactions rather than a branch code. If so could you post it so that us SB users can also contribute.[:)]

Cheers
Chris

Hi CARoper

Firstly thanks for the support!

I have the account details in front of me but the only details I can see is the account number and the branch (I assume it is the branch code). I will try to get more details about the account tomorrow…simply made sure I had a MyADSL account and deposited some money into it. I guess this was not enough :-) I have seen that the branch code used by other organisations is 632005...if this works please let me know.

From within the Standard Bank on-line banking client, when you add a beneficiary, there's this little cryptic note which says "Please click here for more information regarding branch numbers for all banks." When you click, there's this little important popup ;)

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"><b>Branch numbers information</b>

Standard bank accounts If you have an eight digit branch number, use the middle four digits as the branch number
If the number is 01 8005 90 use 8005
If you have a six digit branch number, use the last four digits as the branch number
If the number is 01 8005 use 8005

Other's bank accounts If you have a six digit branch number, add two zeros to the end of your branch number
If the number is 12 3456 it should be entered as 12345600
<b>For ABSA enter 63200500 as it is the only applicable branch number irrespective of the branch</b><hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

Hi

008749 is not a valid branch code, in fact 000000 to 099999 is allocated to Standard Bank.
Generally for electronic transfers to ABSA accounts one should use 632005 from all other banks. With Standard you sometimes have to add two extra zeros to the end of branch codes, ie: 63200500

Hi folks

I have confirmed with ABSA and ASmith is 100% correct. One can simply use 632005 for any ABSA deposit. The previous branch code I have published seems to be an internal code used for other purposes.

Yes, I think this is the case. Use all branches. If you use Standard Bank Internat Banking, you can also click "search" for branches and their you will see one selection called All Branches.

Update: It should look like this:
<b>ALL BRAN
63200500</b>
This has been copied exactly from my Standard Bank Internet Banking Page.

So is this the banking details for MyADSL that you people are talking about?

Hi BTTB

Thanks for confirming this. If you do not see the new design simply use “shift-refresh” or clear your cached internet files :-) You should see the wiki link and a light blue image at the top.

AAAh thanks. Now I see it. [:)]

As promised. My contribution to MyADSL.

<b>Beneficiary name: MYADSL
Bank name: ABSA BANK
Beneficiary account number: 0000-0090-6379-5075
IBT number: 63200500
My reference: MYADSL
Beneficiary reference: BTTB
Amount: R 500.00
Start date: 2004-06-05
End date: 2004-06-05
Recurrence: once off</b>

And I take this moment to challenge any other ADSL users in South Africa to equal, better or put whatever you can afford in MyADSL's account, to the betterment of IT in South Africa.

<b>Viva MyADSL Viva.</b>
