Hi folks

I am glad to announce that the move to the dedicated server was successful. You might notice that the front page needs a bit of attention, but the rest of the site seems to be working great. Please let me know if you experience any difficulty after the move.

Thanks a bunch to Hetzner and Afrihost for making this process so seamless. Special thanks must go to Louis and Maryann from Hetzner for their hard work to ensure that the site move was successful. Great work!

Regards,

RPM

Hi BB_Matt

We are indeed with Hetzner. I will give details at a later stage...my main objective was just to get the site as seamlessly as possible to the dedicated server. More details to follow soon (I should head back to work :D).

Regards,

RPM

I've had nothing but great service from Hetzner - totally on the ball 99% of the time.
Never had any downtime aside from a few minutes every so often with email.

Support staff are also most excellent - if the first line of support can't answer your technical question , you go straight through to a proper tech dude and they know thier stuff ! - no excuses, no BS.

Hi BB_Matt

Exactly the same here. Very friendly and they really goes the extra mile (I am a difficult customer when it comes to MyADSL...I expect the world :D). Thanks Louis for fixing up the main page! They have really done a great job to ensure that MyADSL has very little downtime during this move.

Regards,

RPM

Hetzner is tops! They're super-professional. Good choice rpm!

The only negative I've got to say about them is that their testing cycle for new software is so rigorous that it can take ages for upgrades to happen (still waiting for PHP5). No problems besides that.

Congrats rpm, good choice and their bandwidth prices are great compared to most other hosts.. Hellkom is with Hetzner as well (again) since 2 weeks ago.

Can't agree more. They deliver what they say they will: "German reliability" :)

Wouldn't it be great if one day we could say "South African reliability" and actually mean it without laughing our asses off ? :D

Ah, one can only dream :D

Is it more reliable now? I have not being here for some days (My bed didn't wanted to let me go...*gg*). What was the problem with the old server?

Hi Celemasiko

We now have a dedicated server for MyADSL which will provide us with much more freedom. Previously we were on shared hosting, but I am certain we all agree that MyADSL is now big enough to get its ‘own house’ :D

Thanks for the info. Thats great now. I am happy. I think it was long overdue with the presence we have. Great job.

Hope will be more on the computer again. Had some bad days.

Cmon rpm - you know we're all dying to hear the skinny on the server !

What hardware are you running, how much space, how much traffic etc ?

One thing I do know, Hetzner has some serious bandwidth to play with ! :D

I am currently in the market for hosting (shared)

Did you have problems with Afrihost?

Do you know if Hetzner offer PHP5 support on their shared hosting options?

Think they only go up to PHP4, but then what do I know. What I do know is that they are excelent at what they do. Best is to contact them directly at http://www.hetzner.co.za

Thanks MFour :)
Awaiting their reply. I don't understand yet why some of the bigger guys don't offer the PHP5 option :

Maybe it's like fergus said, that they are still running tests or something. Who knows :p

Ahh I see - damn they seem paranoid man. PHP5 is way ready for production even with Apache2

Perhaps someone @ Hetzner should follow the trend in the broadband market & register as a MyADSL member, and give some official [PHP5] feedback...no conflict of interest since MyADSL is paying for the hosting [IMO] :).
