Johannesburg - South Africa's white community should publicly express their concern and outrage at the murder of black people in Swartruggens, the SA Institute of Race Relations said on Friday.

"The South African Institute of Race Relations this morning called for organisations and leaders within South Africa's white community to publicly express their concern and outrage at the murder of four black people at the hands of a young white gunman in the Swartruggens community," said Institute spokesperson Mapeete Mohale.

The organisation cautioned that the impression should not be made that the broader white community sympathised with the gunman.

Motivated by racism

The Institute added its voice to those groups who had said that the murders were motivated by racism. Mapeete said: "The shooting appeared to be aimed expressly at blacks and was not simply random."

The Institute lauded Democratic Alliance Parliamentary Leader Sandra Botha for expressing solidarity with the suffering of the victim's families.

"The message must be clear that white South Africans reject racist actions emanating from within localised communities and are not indifferent to the victims of such acts" she said.

The Institute's deputy chief executive, Frans Cronje, added that protesters who had waved placards threatening to 'Kill the Boer, kill the farmer' at Thursday's protest outside the Swartruggens Magistrate's Court made it difficult for members of the white community to attend the protest.

"Our common outrage should unite rather than divide us," he said.
 
So by these standards then the black community should express their concern and outrage at the murder of large numbers of white citizens?

Oh FFS, there's always a ****ing uproar when whites kill, but NEVER when blacks kill whites. :mad: I hate this ****ed up country.
There will never be racial unity.
Every group is after their own interests. It's just like that. The only solution is total geographical separation.

Rather than asking a specific ethnic community to express their outrage, why not just encourage the good people of South-Africa to express their outrage regarding senseless violence?
Demanding that any particular ethnic group specifically express their opinion as a group is racist in my eyes. It encourages separation and separate identities.

OMG. At last a realist I take my hat off to you, mate. But be warned, speaking hard truths on this forum could get you banned. Some folk just can't cope with reality.;)

Has anyone heard an apology for all the racist farm killings? Come to think of it, does black on white racism exist in the media? I get the feeling it's only whispered behind closed doors; are we mean't to roll over and play dead?

In retrospect, it's a two way avenue; so I'm waiting for an apology.

I don't think this murder has anything to do with race, I see it in the same light as Columbine or Virgina, troubled youth with too much access to firearms and misdirected anger.

In Virginia it was an Asian immigrant youth who stood out from the caucasian jock culture. Didn't you listen to the recording he made?

Those killings were racially motivated but that's because the guy was on the receiving end of racist treatment. It would be no better for a caucasian student studying in a Korean tech - he'd have been an outsider foreigner too also treated in a racially prejudicial way. You're an outsider, you look a little different, you speak with an accent, you stand out, you're 'sort of' accepted but you're never really party of the pack. People give you the cold shoulder or they never really fully accept you, you remain isolated.
Same in Columbine, these guys also stood out, two goth/computer-game/geeks bullied by jocks and rejected by girls who thought them strange.

Most people don't care, but some become effected too much.

As for this Race Unity Thing, it's just BS. Most people would ignore it,
some nut killed 4 people, it was racially motivated but condemnation to me
seems unnecessary because this was an action of a single unstable man.
It's not like some white organisation with memberships in the tens of thousands brainwashed this guy to murder black people. Then you'd obviously need some serious condemnation from the members.
 
how come I never saw this story in the white media , are the journalists trying to hide something . I am not saying u guys should do what this guy is saying , but why doesnt the whyte media publish such stories .
I just think as a country we need a national shrink , there are still some dirty things that need to be removed from our cultures . But firstly we have to stop this thing of calling pple , black, coloured , white . We need new terms .

I heard this is a revenge killing, the kid's parents were brutally murdered on a farm, in a racist attack/theft excuse and he took his revenge on innocent people. Where was the public outrage and apology from relevent communities which would have consoled his grief and anger? This kid was not a raicst till the day he was given a reason to be a racist, sadly his reaction encourges more racism instead of detering black youths from torturing, raping and killing white boere.
