Hi All

So I have heard from a few people and seen on discussions that getting Sky in SA is possible, but no one has mentioned how.

Does anyone know if there is any truth in this?

Impossible... The footprints of their satellites are Northern Hemisphere only. No way of receiving the services without the use of magic.

You cannot get the Sky signal directly.

Your only real option is something such as a Slingbox.

How ? What do i need ? How much will it cost ?

I am curently using the Roku 3

You need a friend in the UK with a decent internet connection and an extraview type Sky decoder plugged into a Slingbox. On this side you need to install the slingbox receiver application on a PC, phone, supported media player, or you can buy yourself a Slingcatcher. Full control of the Sky decoder is possible from across the internet

Obviously possible like that, but that is a ridiculous solution and not what the OP was after. Bottom line, you cannot receive Sky off satellite in SA.

Sky UK in South Africa?

No way possible, unless you want a dish the size of a observatory in your back garden.

However, it is indeed possible to receive a few of the UK channels via satellite in SA.

This is due, to the British Armed Forces TV service, covering all of Africa, and Western Europe on this one satellite.

BBC One, BBC2, ITV, Sky Sports 1 UK, and Sky Sports 2 UK, and Sky News UK, are all receivable over C-band reception.

The services are encrypted however, but I'm sure, you'll find a card sharing server somewhere online, if you look hard enough, given the popularity of UK TV services.

I'll answer your question

First you need some of these things:

1 UK DNS service or UK VPN
2. Xbox or PC

Then subscribe to one of the following:

Sky Now TV (www.nowtv.com)
GBP8.99/month for Movie Channels
GBP4.99/month for Entertainment channels
GBP9.99/day for Sports channels day pass (no monthly option, only on Sky Go)

Or

Sky Go TV (http://www.sky.com/shop/tv/sky-go/).
GBP40/month = All in Sports,Movies,Entertainment

Both offer similar services from Sky, but differ in what you get and cost.

Enjoy.

Are you currently using this?

hmm could be possible, virtualize it :D

1) but many decoders
2) setup system to control/stream decoder online
3) markup for unlucky countries like us
4) profit??

From what I recall there was something else preventing one from subscribing. Needed local address or something like that. Can you please describe application process? I wonder what if this will work on a Roku.
