Just installed the new skype. The facebook feed is kinda useful to someone who watches their facebook news friend. Im finding it a little useless. Blocking facebook.com will stop the facebook part of this plugin from working.
South Africa’s biggest forum. Discuss, discover, and connect with thousands of members.
Hopefully they'll integrate twitter in their next update...
Then Skype will be an all in one program... skype + facebook + twitter = win
Can someone please explain why some businesses feel the need to block Facebook in the first place?
Why would Facebook be any less useful for business than Skype? And if you're using Skype as a business tool, do you then try to block any non-business messages? I don't get it.
Due to employees that spends hours at a time on Facebook, and not attending to their other work.

Which ports do I firewall out to stop skype from working? The office wench is permanently on there and does no work as it is.![]()
You get employees who will abuse the privelege, and productivity will drop drastically. It really is a no-brainer. Blocking Facebook is very effective compared to trying to police your staff into complying, or simply "trusting: them.
Also remember that many companies have different offices, wharehouses, factories, etc, all on the same premises. You also get employees who need to capture stock figures, or other data, and work night shift. There might nopt be anybody around around to police them into complying. Telling them that "I trust you not to abuse this privelege" never works, especially when there is no monitoring.
Yes Facebook is used for business purposes as well (we use it!), but that doesn't mean that everybody should simply have access. People who need it, should be given access, with strict guidelines/rules.
The internet is a beast that can cause many problems if left un-monitored, completely open for all to use.
I see, so spending hours chatting on the telephone or playing chess is ok. When did blocking a few websites become an acceptable alternative to effective staff management?
Why don't you just block the skype.com domain??
That may block Skype logins (if Skype uses only that). However, it is a nasty client to block completely, as it uses a variety of ports, tunnelling over whatever one is available. And it connects P2P to any other clients it can reach, not all data passes through the Skype servers.
