If you're both behind NAT firewalls (e.g. ADSL routers), your conversation may need to be relayed through a 'supernode' (i.e. another user not behind NAT) which may be in Kazakstan or anywhere on the planet.

I am using SkypeOut to call a normal phone and not calling another Sykpe user. That may also have something to do with it.

Sarcasm? Of course they are.

I call US and UK landlines all the time using skype for between 30-60 minutes on occasion. Work out how much revenue they're losing that way and you'll see why they'd be keen to shape the protocol.

Guys who are having problems - have you tried checking your skype preferences to see what port its using and then make sure its forwarded by your router (if applicable)? If you're still having problems try using a proxy server or a VPN to get around telkoms shaping. Clipse or MrBEEP should be able to help there.

I use SkypeOut and I call PC to PC and its 100% in both cases, as a matter of fact yesterday I tried Skype (PC to PC) on IS and I would rate it about 5% better then my existing Saix set up ... I play games and always have Skype on and even with the game sounds and music Skype is as clear as crystal .... The WebCam on Skype is superior by far then any other IM I've tried ,,, the sound is definitely better then Yahoo ....

I've got to wait until they update the mac version. I hear its almost as good as the video on iChat.

I really cant understand the problem. I have been using skype for months now on webafrica SAIX (shaped), no problem. occasionaly there is lag, but it's still very good...

Telkom have decided to prioratize skype more recently, so people will use their client instead.
