Hi everyone

Please post any experiences you might have had while using skype on Virgin Mobile Network. I'm thinking of buying the card to make calls. Please post on call strength/drop offs/data consumed while on the new Sony-E GC85 EDGE/GPRS PC Card (on 128KSIM).

Thanks in advance and kudos for all the other contributions!

Update on Skype (GPRS_Midrand)

Thanks for the input sean12. Seems like most folks have yet to buy VM data cards. Have been skyping 'successfully' by GPRS (not sure if I have EDGE in Bluehills-MidRand) on my Nokia6230i. Call quality was so-so, I could have a decent conversation with my family (overseas), however, there was like 1-2 second delay in talking and being heard. Call drops often @office hours to 10pm or so. My take is that I would go for the VM data card (4skype calls) only if I have access to EDGE. BTW, had more success using Google talk, had clearer speech and less lag.Average airtime lost was 1-2Rands/5min call.

My costs were round about R0.58 per minute with Skype. I will retest this properly....soon.

Not too bad soud quality. Also had a LAG of 3-7seconds on GPRS,but on a local call. I do not have edge/3G to test it on. Will try google talk soon.

just my 2c

MY MTN E620 in a 3G/HSDPA area works well with voipbuster but it uses double the bandwidth. I have not used SKYPE for a while because Voipbuster offers free call to certain countries. They are cheaper then SKYPE but use more bandwidth. 6 of 1 and half a douzen of the other. I am waiting for my VM card that will work in my data card. Almost a month now.
