How much bandwidth does Skype use while I'm in a call?

Skype automatically selects the best codec depending on the connection between yourself and the person you are calling. On average, Skype uses between 3-16 kilobytes/sec depending on bandwidth available for other party, network conditions in between, callers CPU performance, etc.

Video would probably add a fair bit to that.

have recently been told by someone that they nolonger use skype because part of the skype fine print is thatin using skype you "OK" them using your extra / spare bandwidth! Not sure how true this is! ???

You can disable this "super-[-]peering[/-]node".

@ bwana - which version of Skype are you using? Want to disable this supernode as to stop leeching of our bandwidth.
