Number Portability is an essential signpost alongside the road that leads to competition with Telkomonopoly, IOW the national number db is something we cannot live without if we want competition.

The wonderful people in Luxembourg have finally released a OsX version of Skype that supports SkypeIn and voicemail. A new feature is a central database of contact so if you use skype on multiple machines it now follows where you go.

BTW - it looks like they've run out of UK numbers - glad I got mine. I'm sure they'll get more soon.

Is there a dedicated VOIP section in these forums? Seems like a popular topic these days.

I am already in negotitations with Skype to put a server in SA as well as resell minutes in SA for SA rands so people will not have problems with there credit cards, they will also be able to to bank transfers ect.

Will keep you posted.

:D

I must tell you that well it is a mission at the very least. anyway we are talking and things seem to be going well.

Things that of concern, bandwidth requirments will be very large and we talking about GIB to London. !! and the second is the euipment.

WW - a local skype server would help greatly once my cap kicks in but would they really be willing to pay that much for all the local bandwidth?

The deal would be that I would be required to provide the int bandwidth to them from my server, and I owuld get paid by selling the minutes as I will make a commission of the minutes, however that does not always waork

as they base there commissions on how much bandwidth costs in the UK and not in SA.

WW - best of luck to you - hope you can make it work and can turn a profit at the same time.

I'll be dancing in the streets the day bandwidth costs are the same here and the UK!

My 2 cents worth...

It will be an excellent bussiness case if you only had to provide bandwith for SkypeOUT calls .... however if you to for all calls I think bandwith it is way too expensive unfortunatly...

Does anyone know how skypeout calls get to south africa at the moment?
