In terms of functionality, ease of use etc, which of Google Talk vs Skype is the better client to install?

Would prefer that which is compatible with other IM clients. Can one make calls from a GT client to a Skype client?

You are more than welcome to include other messaging/pc to pc call clients if you feel the above are not as good.

I don't know whether you can call a Skype client from Google Talk, however I use Pidgin (links included in the General Hardware & Software FAQ) to manage my various accounts, including Skype and Google Talk. Maybe install Pidgin and get the best of both worlds? :)

I don't think you can call from the one client to the other... unless you have rented a number in some country with Skype.

Pidgin of Trillian can handle multiple IM clients, but not sure about the VOIP crosstalk.

I would choose Skype as the better talk client... just cos I use it regularly. I rented a number in the USA so they could call me on my Skype for only a USA domestic charge.

If you use fring http://www.fring.com/ on your cellphone then you can get crosstalk between the clients.

But I would suggest you just load Skype on your desktop and get all your friends to do the same.

btw... there is a forum for all discussions related to VOIP over here...

Thanks for the replies. Will look at Pidgen and go through the VOIP forums. :)
