Skype

I have it installed on my iPad and called a friend in the uk. He did not answer and so I got contacted him to call me.
My end Skype did not ring and it turns out that my friend who uses a pc has the same problem when calling a friend in Australia.
Any ideas what gives?

Use it daily and there is one contact who uses an iPad from time to time and when he does, same problem. Everyone else whether it's phone or laptop or tablet is fine so maybe iPad specific?

Skype server is down. I noticed that it shows my contacts are online, but calling fails.
After closing Skype (not just minimizing to the notification area) and starting again, it shows message "Skype (Connecting)".

Not down for me either. Been using it since 7AM.
