Hi, Sure there is an easy answer to this - We Video Skype between Jhb and Cape Town but when my International CAP has run out - that's the end of it aless I buy some more bandwidth.
Is there a way of "skyping" local only? Even Pc to PC?
We are both on Telkom ADSL and I do habe a DYNDNS account but I suppose that is always "International"
Any (polite) suggestions will be appreciated! :)

You can try out my application to split traffic between local & international accounts. Just note that you require 2 separate accounts and not just a Telkom blended account. I've also built in a DynDNS.org updater for the local accounts. Unfortunately Skype would also stop working when you run out of international cap with my application.

Just so you know, Skype is a p2p app meaning it isn't strictly "international". If you and the person you're trying to call can open/forward the ports that skype uses through your firewall/router so that a direct TCP session on that port can be opened from the other guy, then your call will be routed over local traffic. The only 'international' part would be signing on to skype, and even that isn't always international if you're lucky enough to have your Skype prefer some local skype supernodes.
I'd stick with skype, as they have great quality codecs. Try fix up your network rather than move to a worse alternative

Thanks Guys, Gives me a great start to work with! Tried Googling it at first but that goes off at a tangent.

Anything else you might think of will be appreciated but will explore these this morning!!

Regards

Erich

Came across doCHAT which is free to Telkom ADSL and Local and spitting image of Skype!

Any experiences with doCHAT?

I registered for this a year or 2 ago and now that i want to use it, I know my 0872004xxx number but not my password and going into the site mentioned above, "change my Password" crashes. I have reported it 2 x and tried to change the password by calling 0800500200 - 1st time I was told it was changed but it was not and the 2nd time, I was told they cannot change it, I must do it via the website ( which crashes) .

Can't win
