Skyrim

Last night I used the bow and arrow for the first time... in an old cave whilst in sneak mode...and hidden from view. The bandit was very far away and never saw it coming. Instant kill! Wow. I was impressed. Normally i'm into the whole mace and shield style of play, but now I want to start playing around with some archery as well...
Addictive game... just a pitty it freezes and dies a lot (only outside areas) on my old PC.

I found the best way to do it is : Buy iron ignots in whiterun from the blacksmith lady, the guy in the shop and the guy at the skyforge. Craft iron daggers till your eyes bleed. goto enchanter - enchant. Sell daggers. Rest 3 days. Rinse and repeat. Blacksmithin on 99 now, enchanting on 77. It's quite kief, cause enchanted daggers sell for quite a bit so you make a return.

hmm, I should try that...I just SUCK at remembering to cast soul steal on targets, because most of them die with the first arrow. How do you manage that with your enchanting?

Also I got some black gems and that black star, I'm scared of wasting the black star, so not sure what I should do with it. I'm guessing once you put it on a weapon, that's the end of it - no more upgrades.

Black Star is permanent, can use it to recharge or for enchanting and the empty gem will be in inventory afterwards ready for trapping another soul.

Take it easy on the power leveling, sure you can get a nice couple levels from smithing/enchanting alone, but most mobs will scale up with you...you'll end up with strong mobs vs lacking armor/weapons required to take them down

Just enchant a soul trap on your bow. Then you 1-shot them and still get their soul

I'm now in that 'rut' with my Mage. :( I'm so bored with the character, and I'm way too much of a 'character player' to consider branching out in a different direction (literally, I ask myself "Why would my character do this, or act that way?").

So now I must consider the implications of starting that new character. Firstly, there is the issue of timing. I'm in the education sector, so a decent holiday is coming up. I was of a mind to finish the game with my mage and then start a new character on a harder level for the holidays. If I start now, I risk hitting a similar plateau in the middle of my holiday!

Then there's the question of DLC. The longer I wait, the better my chances of starting a new character with new DLC, essentially getting a brand new experience. Countering this is the fact that I could always add mods at any time to enhance my game.

The only alternative I see is completely ignoring the game for 2 weeks. But...that's not really why I paid money for it, now is it?

*Dilemma llama*

Not really hey :) Currently using the Arch Mage robes from mage college, a glass sword with frost enchant, bit of conjuration/restro/destrution.
Once i hit 100 BS i'm gonna make myself some lekker items.
I'm at a difficulty level now of coolness. Dungeons are challenging but beatable with a bit of strat and patience.

I don't quite follow... how do I go about using it? I still need to read up on soul trapping because I have enchants on my bow/daggers which run out after a while. No idea how to refresh it. :/

Oculate told me to do that as well, but I don't have the "soul trap" enchant yet. :(

Try going to the drunken hunter in whiterun, the seller there might have a bow that has the soul trap enchant on it. Use that bow, or disenchant it to learn the soul trap enchantment.

buy the soul trap conjuration spell from the wizard in white run. Make sure its active, charge + aim at mob you wish to trap soul, kill mob and the soul will go into a soul gem.

The black star is cool cause its re-usable. To recharge, just clcik the sword and click the gem i think? It tells you when its out of charge.

The black star can carry the best type of soul, which in effect gives you the best enhancement for your enchant.

No idea how to refresh it. :/

Highlight the enchanted item you want to charge in your inventory, push T on PC, and select a soul gem you want to use

AFAIK it's RB on XBox

I hit 50 this weekend, got really lost in Blackwater (stupid Nirnroots) and angered a Named dragon while down there

ah! Makes sense...thought I had to re-enchant each time.

Question, with the black star: if I , say , use it on my glass bow...and I finally get an upgrade to whatever awesome bow is next, can I reuse the black star or is it bound to the glass bow?

When you use the black star only the soul gets used up. the black star itself remains in your inventory ready to capture another soul.

It's like Azura's star from Morrowind and Oblivion. The soul gets used, not the gem.

Edit: what he said ^^^^

Didn't play for the whole weekend! Feel like I've fallen so far behind (Prob cause I have) Only just bought my first house end of last week. Got some serious playing to do this week. . .

Suddenly I'm not feeling all that well. Think I have to take a few days off ;)

I also need to call in sick soon to catch up.

Finished the main quest yesteday with my warrior. Specialized in: one hand, block, heavy armour, smithing. Also used a little bit of restoration early in the game. Lockpicking also shoots up fast when you open up those master chests :) The game gets too easy once you make daedric armours and weapons. Nothing can kill you and you just pound everything to death in a few hits. Didn't even need to heal in boss fights. I played a breton as well and had some major magic resistance. Didn't even bother enchanting my armour. So I just went through the main quest, the companions quests and most of the word of power quests. Wanted to finish the game and start with my pure mage.

Going to go to the greybeards, the mages college and then start clearing out the map from one side. Focusing on destruction, restoration, alteration, enchanting, alchemy.

General functionality fixes related to remapping buttons and controls (PC)

Levelled my Smithing up tonight, made that my sole goal for the evening.

I'm now chilling in full Dragon Bone armor with a daedric sword and looking badass!

I didn't realise how much better it was over my mix of orcish and steel plate armor until i equipped it. My battlemage is feeling super powerful. Played around a little and decimated a frost dragon. My conjuration and heavy armor battlemage is pretty much ready for the main questline I think :)

No mention of fixing the "aaargh my game crashed for absolutely no reason except for the fact that I am on steam" bug.

Oh well. I have the 4gb workaround :)
And my dilemma. Still.

Fixed rare issue with dragons not properly giving souls after death

YAY!

I must have killed 12 dragons that didn't burn up and give me a soul

With everyone talking about doing the main story quest, am I the only 1 that is saving it for last?

I still have 35% of the map to explore, 25 dungeons/caves I've discovered that I haven't cleared and so many side quests keeping me busy
