Skyrim

Loving this game. Level 44 warrior. Nothing can stop me. I just finished the main quest last night. Now I want to get to own more houses. Do side quests. Take over every inch of skyrim pretty much.

That answers a fear of mine, so if you finish the main story can you still go on playing the game, if so I'll start questing. lvl 39 Battlemage with little to no quests :)

I believe I finished the Main Quest (I dont want to give away spoilers).
Currently I am on quests for Imperial Legion. I have tons of small quests and side quests still to do. I am sort of lost at the moment. Keen to explore and loot but more keen to do side quests to have the feeling of progression.
My guy is max potent. I hardly take damage and can jsut about 1 to 3-shot kill dragons.
I guess the next step is upping the skills I haven't worked on like Sneaking, lockpicking, light armor etc to get level 81. But I dont want to push skill sto hard. Just loving where I am at the moment.
getting amped for a new character - sneaky archer / thief.
I have been sort of tempted to go to a city and kill everyone and loot the whole place. I am just a bit scared I may ruin quests or may not be worth the loot?

I want to do the same, but planning on Riften.... nothing but scum in that town and that include the corrupt leaders of it.

Just way to many quests that wants you to go there still, so I have to put off the slaughter till a tad later :)

OMG, my silent assassin finally reached his full potential yesterday. Lvl38 now with maxed out smithing and enchanting. Sneak is at 94. Crafted myself a set of dragonscale armour and double enchanted them. Equipment is as follows:

Dragonscale boots: Sneaking is 40% better; One-hand damage is 40% more
Dragonscale gloves: Sneaking is 40% better; One-hand damage is 40% more
Ring: Sneaking is 40% better; One-hand damage is 40% more
Amulet: Sneaking is 40% better; One-hand damage is 40% more
Dragonscale helmet: Fortify magicka; Illusion spells cost x% less and increased magicka regeneration
Dragonscale plate: Fortify health; Increased magicka regneration
Weapon: Legendary daedric dagger (not sure what enchants to put on here yet...don't need any at the moment)

Playstyle: Dagger in one hand and spell (muffle most of the time or healing when fighting dragons) in the other. I'm practically invisible in broad daylight with people all around me as long as I'm a few feet away. In any shadow or at night I can stand right in anyones face and they can't see me! Crazy fun. There can be 3 people standing together and I'll kill one and the others won't even see me. I don't even need to run away or hide. They'll just see the body and mumble something about finding the killer. The slicing throat kill animation never gets old too. I can just sneak through caves and forts one shotting everything as long as I don't bump into people or run into the light. Don't need the double backstab damage too. The only really tough fights are dragons. For some reason I can't sneak up on them :/

I'm doing my side quests first. It just feels like a proper accomplishment and "completeness" when I leave the main objective for last. I normally just get bored and leave the game completely if I finish the main quest first. I suppose it's a psychological thing. It happened to me with Morrowind and Oblivion. With Fallout I left the main quest for last, but I must say the Explorer perk helped me a lot to finish most, if not all of the side quests. When I finished it (expansion packs aside) it really felt satisfying and totally complete.

You are quite right, the fist thought I had after finishing the main quest was:"What now?" Hehehehhehe. But I just did it because I thought I may miss out on something (shouts or something) until I completed the main quest. Feels like the game is almost over in a sense. Only thing left is whatever fun I can have in Skyrim. :)
Then onto my second Character. December holidays are going to be awesome.

This is what the Elderscrolls are all about :)

I must admit. I played quite a bit of Oblivion. Really enjoyed it. I did find myself struggling as the enemy would become more potent than me and at a point I got stuck fighting hard guys. Obviously I spent my points on non combat skills (noob). But I think it really has helped me in Skyrim. In skyrim I made sure my guy will not be too weak. He is almost too strong but I appreciate being able to play that way if I choose to. You basically set the challenge the game will be. You are so right though. TES is about replaying and expriencing a whole different game by changing your character and choices in the game.

Anyone else having Dragon trouble?
My last two encounters have been odd, the first started off usually but on killing the Dragon the body just stayed as is, not flames/skeleton/soul routine, the next one just sat on the floor and waited to die, my companion was firing off arrows and fireballs at an empty sky while the Dragon just roosted. If I got this ones health to zero then nothing at all happened, it just sits there watching me.
Odd

You need to learn a shout from one of the word walls. You get a quest in either Riverwood or Whiterun that takes you to a dungeon to learn your first word.

I don't think it's possible to to complete the Bleak Falls Barrow quest without learning the shout from the word wall. The Draugr that has the Dragonstone only appears after learning the word.

Also, when you kill the dragon in Dragon Rising, the shout you learned is automatically unlocked.

@Tommygun
If you go to your Power/Magic screen, does Shouts appear? It should be near the bottom. If it does, does Unrelenting Force appear in it's list and is it gray or white?

You are supposed to get a quest from the Jarl at Whiterun to kill the dragon. Once the dragon is dead you will get the soul and the first shout automatically though.

5gig?

Ok so I buy Skyrim after not playing PC games for 9 months.

Pop it in the drive and execute... wtf!!! STEAM!!! no where on the damned box did it say steamed powered...argh!!

AnyWoo! Type in the serial code and wait for it to start installing...

Steam says the game is unavailable try again later... so I see its updating in the downloads section 5,7 GIG update.

Why the hell do they bother to polute the environment with printing DVDs if I have to download the whole bloody Blu-ray!!

Anyways baught it yesterday afternoon and its been updating for more than 24 hours with another 4 hours to go.
Internet speeds are so slow during the day it probably wont be finished when I get home.

Today is going to be a long day ~~

I saw some1s post earlier about missing morrowind. I must agree the vastness in morrowind was staggering. I hope Skyrim is more like morrowind than Oblivion was.

dude check earlier in the thread, there is a way to stop the entire game redownloading. Following then instructions to get playing ASAP :)

"
Using Steam launch options to install retail games from disc

*Log in to Steam and click on Library.
*Right-click on the game, select Delete local content, and confirm.
Insert the first disc into your computer.
Close Steam (Steam > Exit).
Press Windows Key + R to open Run
In the Run window type:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct.
Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location.
Press OK. Steam will launch and ask you to sign in if you do not have your password saved. Your installation should continue from the disc. "

Oh no way!!!

I am at work now and the download is finishing so... whatever will be will be.

// pulling my hair out of my skull

That's weird - bought it two weeks ago and did a standard install - steam installs, then Skyrim (off the DVD) and afterwards Steam did a download of I think about 200MB (but certainly not the whole game).

I just hope that the downloaded version includes the updates.
