Skyworth Binge TV Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Thanks. But how can I get the "normal " Google Play Store onto my TV Box?
You do have the normal Play Store. You are seeing only the apps that's made/designed and supported for your device and its OS.

I don't think it works like that - the more technical can tell you.

If you're looking for something specific, you'll need to download the APK and install

Many thanks. So I am sitting with a fancy TV box that I cannot even use e.g. chrome on to search the internet?

You can look at it that way - but it's actually designed so you don't browse the Internet from the box. Steaming is the way forward and they want you to have a better streaming experience.

Anything running legit and genuine Android TV (ie LIT / Ematic / Skyworth / Mi) is going to have the same issue. If you really want mobile Android , you can get a cheap and nasty box running old mobile Androids. You'll have plenty other issues - but you'll have access to the store you want.

Btw - Puffin browser is available in the TV store ?

You cannot sideload the mobile phone google play store but there are many great third party store apps you can sideload and after sideloading that particular appstore it will sideload the apps for you by just searching.

Download the following on a pc, put it on a stick and sideload it on your box:
Some popular 3rd party appstores:
aptoide
apkpure

You can use an app like file commander (available in the Android TV store) to sideload the apks
I recently discovered apkpure and personally prefer it to aptoide, as I always used apkpure on my pc to download apks anyways.

Edit: After sideloading 'normal' android apps you need an app like 'sideload launcher' to access them in an easy manner.

I am subscribed to netflix but the tv i want to use the binge on, already has netflix installed and it plays in 4k, HDR and 5.1 on the TV's netflix.

My other tv is a skyworth tv with Android built in already and that has netflix also playing in 4k, hdr and 5.1 as well.

ps: have any of you checked out the Mecool mk9 pro? Beats the Ematic, Mi, Binge and i can get it for less than the Binge and yes its google certified.
Dolby vision and dolby atmos working on it as well.

Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos passthrough won't work on it.
The only external devices supporting Dolby Vision with the correct licenses are the Nvidia Shield 2019, Apple TV and FireTV 4K stick and new FireTV Cube with it's own problems and some Bluray devices.
Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD MA and True-HD passthrough also don't work on these generic devices.
The device is Dolby Vision capable and you will see that in advertisements for all S905X2 devices but it's false marketing to lure you to buy it, you also need a license from Dolby Laboratories which the manufacturers haven't implemented since it costs quite a lot.

It does on the mecool. Look on YouTube but only via kodi.

I dont need atmos or dolby vision yet coz i havnt got a tv or amplifier that is capable of those so not an issue for me.

Ill upgrade everything in a couple of years.

I've got a skyworths TV and I'm unable to cast from my dlna app. (Prefer not to use the Google home app).

Is this normal behaviour?

How do I upgrade from Android TV 8 to 9 ? Will it fix the Netflix issue?

You'll have to upgrade to the R1.3k version

When it is ready, they will push the next version of Android TV to your box.

No, the box, is not likely to be Netflix certified - so it will not get Netflix, even when it gets new version of Android TV.
