Skyworth Binge TV Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

You could try changing the wifi channel nr on your router. Sometimes it gets interference from other wifi spots around you being on the same channel
If memory serves, I am on Auto and there are not many WiFi AP's in my vicinity.
Will try and make it static channel - would be really dumb if the Android box did not like roaming channels like any other Android (or iDevice) for that matter..

Don't get me wrong, this device is awesome - it just works out the box
I just dont have the option to put it on LAN,as I am visiting the folks and their network is majority WiFi else I would do that without blinking.

A couple of things - Android TV 8.0 does have a bug where it can start-up with the WiFi disabled even though it was enabled on shutdown.

Roaming channels should work. There are a couple of possibilities. WiFi dropping in this case could mean an external source of interference (certain Microwave ovens can cause not only our device but others to drop out when in use). Signal may look strong on the meter, but it isn't always a signal strength issue, but a noise from a non-compliant device issue. While we are technically WiFi compliant and EMC compliant, Android TV in general doesn't seem to handle burst noise interrupting the WiFi so well. Android 9.0 seems to behave a little better in this respect.

Look for a correlation between other equipment starting up (fridge, aircon, microwave) and WiFi failure. Sometimes changing WiFi channels helps, but wideband noise is tricky because it is everywhere. Also, certain router settings (e.g. specifying 20MHz as opposed to 40MHz bandwidth on 2.4GHz) may help.

Do you have the same problem on 5GHz as 2.4GHz?

Thanks for the response.
I presume 8.0 is updating to 9.x sometime soon - maybe it gets fixed
I will change the spectrum to 20Mhz and see if this fixes it
With regards to the 5Ghz and 2.4 - I dont know if this will be an issue - but the WiFi is named the same, for the 5 and 2.4 (so not seperated like wifiname_2.4 and wifiname_5.0)

We'd suggest naming them differently and trying both to be able to easily tell which one you're connected to. Then testing. This may help isolate the issue.

I just want to voice my disappointment with this Skyworth - Netflix issue.
We bought a 32 inch Smart TV for the kids' room, but after setting everything up, I couldn't even find the Netflix app.

I'm putting Skyworth on my list of brands to avoid.
Along with Multichoice, Showmax and Naspers.

And then I would like to thank Pick n Pay for refunding my money.

Well this thread is actually for the Skyworth Android Binge TV box and not TV's, which are the responsibility of another company, be that as it my be ...

Did the TV advertise that it supported Netflix?

No.

But also there is no indication on the box that Netflix is NOT supported.

I only found that out after some googling.
Even Skyworth's website shows the 'Android TV home screen' and there's a Netflix logo on it.

I assumed that 'Smart TV - Android TV' would give you the freedom to install whatever you need.

Assumption is the mother of all bugger ups.

Seperating the networks seems to have solved this - albeit that the device does NOT like 5Ghz being repeated
Router is a 2.4 and 5Ghz capable TP Link with a repeater in the middle FYI in case you want to check into possible scenarios for testing

If their marketing material shows Netflix then I'd be pissed too.

Noted, thank you! Glad it is resolved. We will be testing more complex wifi setups where we can. There are some limitations though that Android pushes on to us.

Sadly this is a Netflix limitation not an Android Limitation, as to get Netflix you must pass their certification - they have an extra process above Google's process. Although we're not the TV division, we do understand the dilemma as we also face it. Netflix are selective, and from the outside it does seem quite arbitrary who they partner with. We can't really comment on this much, but you can contact the TV division (Skyworth.co.za) for more information.

You can also sideload, but we do understand that's not quite ideal.

Hi guys. May be the wrong thread i know.
In 2018 i initially bought a hisense 55a6100 4k tv (although i wanted the skyworth but it was more expensive), first day i had an issue with my HDMI ports so i returned it and got the skyworth g6 4k Android TV instead.I am extreeeeemely happy with it and its Android. since then 6 friends of mine bought these as well....one friend bought 2 in one day!
2 weeks ago I bought the exact same hisense tv i initially bought lol, second hand, got it for a steal, and now im going to add the skyworth binge box to it...making it my second "skyworth tv" lol.

I would just like to tell the guys from skyworth, your products are excellent and i would recommend it to anyone.
I compared the picture quality of my skyworth tv side by side to the hisense and the skyworth has a definite better quality picture.

Mi box wouldve been my choice before the binge box came on the market. But im going with skyworth

Ps: merry belated Christmas to everyone

Don't get the Binge Box. No Netflix. Rather go for the Ematic. Better value for money.

I know it doesn't have Netflix lol but i know how to sideload it plus my tv has Netflix built in already with a dedicated button for it on its remote.

I like that the skyworth box has ethernet port, the normal spdif port and 2 usb ports compared to Mi box
