Skyworth Binge TV Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Yes, Netflix can be side loaded and put on the TV menu desktop, but you might need an air mouse for best experience.
 
Has anyone tried the modded Netflix android TV app that worked on the Lit Box before it got its certification?

That one worked properly, no mouse needed.

Skyworth have directed me to install a version 4.16.3 from Apkmirror.com that apparently works.

Personally I'm not interested in hack job sideloads and will wait for them to fix their certification ****.
 
It is unfortunately not up to skyworth, at this point, it is waiting for google to give the certication, as I understand it, skyworth have already made the application.

So, don't spite your nose....., as the side loaded netflix is quite workable, depending on the version that gets side loaded.

I thought they were for Netflix to do the certification

I think they said somewhere in this thread that this current model won't get Netflix and only the next model.

But - as I understand it - as soon as the move is made to Android TV, everything becomes stricter. To get Netflix certification on Android TV devices requires an agreement between an ISP <> Netflix direct. Technically, anything you buy off the shelf with Android TV is not going to have Netflix ...

But there are ways around this - it's just not the norm.

My understanding is that they were certified up until November some time and then ran into a T&C's issue and now it doesn't work.

Why on earth would your ISP have anything to do with your TV certification? Then LG/Samsung/Sony/Panasonic etc also wouldn't have certified Netflix apps.

Why do you think the LIT didn't - and then did - work with Netflix?

An agreement was signed between Telkom <> Netflix

Why would the xiaomi mi box then be certified?

I don't see that agreement having anything to do with the hardware and it's a separate issue.

That agree is rather with relation to Netflix nodes sitting inside Telkom data centres.

The LIT box being a separate entity and it's certification probably just helped along due to the deal.
 
The fact that the existing LIT boxes have recently received Netflix certification gives me some hope that the Binge TV may also be supported in the future. There have been cases in the past where customers have had to replace existing devices with new models while waiting for Netflix support due to certification issues so I am really hoping that this isn't the case with the Binge TV. Xiaomi was supposed to be releasing an upgrade to support Netflix HD on the Pocophone F1 earlier this year.

Well, the LIT box received because in the background both Netflix and Telkom were working on signing the contract for over a year.

I have my doubts about this exact Skyworth model getting official Netflix and I'm almost sure that the official Skyworth said the same thing somewhere here. It really is no coincidence that the majority of Android TV boxes out there don't do Netflix officially, unless they're running an older Android version.

EDIT : Perhaps not in so many words ....

Most of the Skyworth Smart Android TVs support Netflix HD and Skyworth is one of the largest TV and TV box manufacturers in the world so they may be able to reach an agreement with Netflix. Netflix support should also result in much better international sales of the Binge TV. The Mi Box appears to be selling very well internationally.
 
We can only hope that they can somehow leverage their relationship in other areas
 
I am having an issue with showmax on this skyworth binge. If I pause a series, and come back a few hours later, then there is a message that it lost contact with showmax servers. That is fine.
But what is not fine, is that it then reverts back to episode 1.
I have to then ff to the current episode. Painful. There is no list of what pervious episodes I have seen so I can select the current one. Just continue watching (episode 1).
Is this a bug?
Perhaps I must not pause and rather stop.
Maybe then it will show all previous episodes I have seen.

Unfortunately there is no further update at this time. We cannot comment on Netflix's decisions at this point, but it currently does not seem likely to be resolved in the near future, but we are still exploring other options. That is all we can really share on the matter.
