Skyworth Binge TV Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

@Skyworth Digital Support using Google Assistant is a real challenge, as it takes between 15-30 seconds after pressing the voice search button for it to appear. Is this a known issue?
We have picked up the issue on multiple platforms and are investigating it. Unfortunately part of our team is away for the Lunar holiday, but it seems like a update pushed through Google or a server side issue may be causing problems here. We will continue to investigate.

Skyworth have directed me to install a version 4.16.3 from Apkmirror.com that apparently works.

Personally I'm not interested in hack job sideloads and will wait for them to fix their certification ****.

Actually we could only recommend the one found here:
https://help.netflix.com/en/node/57688

If our support line directed you otherwise, our apologies. We cannot recommend sources outside of the vendor themselves or the Google Play Store as a matter of policy. By default we cannot assume apkmirror is safe.

But it’s not an Android phone or Tablet so it’s impossible to follow the guide you linked.

Which is probably why your support directed to a sideload which is more relevant to Android TV.

Do you even know your own products? Or do you simply copy and paste links?

But I agree Apkmirror isn’t “safe” and shouldn’t be required in the first place.

When will the problem be fixed through official channels to use the official and up to date Android TV app?

Can you confirm if the current boxes will receive Netflix certification or are you going to give us all the middle finger and say we should buy new ones?

The apk in the link works on our box. You can adapt the instructions for Android TV 8.0. Netflix do not at this time provide any other APK that we are aware of.

We have given all the information we can regarding Netflix support, and if you go back through this forum, you will find comments from other users on Netflix's policies. It is not our place to comment on the policies of other companies.

We hope this clears up any confusion.

Yes thats all I want to know as well..
As we have stated from the beginning, Netflix support is not something we can promise on this platform, and in the current environment, it does not look likely that this will change. We continue to explore options but we do not recommend you bank on this.

Okay my problem isn't with the Box but rather the E6 series Television.

Would the process be the same?

I had someone reach out via Twitter and they provided the Apkmirror guide.

Knew I shouldn't have fallen for buying this because it was simply too good to be true that it would work as advertised....
At least dstv now and showmax works flawlessly..

I can try and query this internally after the Lunar New Year. I am unlikely to get a response before then.

Guess we can only hold thumbs..

Thanks, as long as this is something you guys are aware of. The Netflix issue really isn't something I am too concerned about, especially because it's their issue to resolve.

@Skyworth Digital Support
I Read somewhere that automatic framerate switching is not part of the AndroidTV 8.0 SDK.

Does that mean that we will NEVER have the luxury of it ever being implemented?
that will most definitely be a deal breaker for me.

The chipset provider indicated that this could be resolved when we raised it with them, however it might necessitate a move to the next Android version. I do not have any feedback on potential updates at this time, but I will doublecheck with the engineering team after the Lunar New Year.

Having issues casting DSTV now from my iPhone to the Binge TV box. The cast icon is not showing up on the DSTV now app. I've rebooted the router, box and phone multiple times and still doesn't work. What could be the issue? I've got the box for about 2 months now and never had this issue.

We are not aware of any updates that might cause this. Are you able to cast other content (YouTube for example)? Is the DSTV Now app working directly on the box?
