Skyworth Binge TV Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Hi Guys,

I have a Skyworth 49G6A11T (49 inch UHD Android TV). It's been great up until the recent Android 8.0.0 firmware update. I cant seem to read my external HDDs after that. I can only play and view content if i use the native media player, if i use VLC, MX Player or any other player i get either blank/empty folders.

I've contacted Skyworth and their support has been absolutely terrible, they confirmed that it was because of the update and that i shouldn't have updated but why release an update that you dont want your users to download, it makes no sense. they suggested a factory reset but that didnt seem to fix anything except erase everthing on the TV.

I've tried searching online for solutions but have had no luck.

has anyone experienced anything similar, please help me.

I know this isn't the right place for this but any answer will be better than nothing.

I have a Sinotec (owned by skyworth) 50inch (STL-50G2AUM) android TV and have the exact issue. Got this TV in September 2018 running android 7, everything worked 100% (Netflix came preinstalled and worked with built in chromecast up until January when Google/Netflix broke something with casting from Google home mini).

Anyway my point: I updated to 8 (Oreo) and thats when issues started. NTFS drives no longer detected anything other than the default media player (which is crap btw) so Kodi, Xplore, VLC just see the drive with everything showing up as 0byte files. Also, I was connected to Bluetooth for my sound system, all worked before the updates. After the update, the volume control slider will move but the bluetooth audio remains at the same volume. I found that the bluetooth audio volume is fine on the default media player, but literally everything else (Youtube, Kodi, Netflix, etc) will not alter the media volume. There must be some way the software has given kernel access to the default media player and nothing else. I did sideload a volume control app and managed to change the volume that way but it requires a mouse so not a proper solution and its intermittent.

I've tried to contact Sinotec but not gotten anywhere. I'd just like to make them aware of the issue and see if there will be another update soon that will fix this.

The only tv's with AndroidTV that get decent updates are Sony and Phillips or Samsung/LG with their own OS which in my opinion works better than AndroidTV on an actual tv.
Other tv's will always have bugs that use AndroidTV so you must use an external AndroidTV media player also that get more updates.

I have a samsung smart TV as well and "works better" depends on what you use it for. Android TV can do waaay more than any smart TV so for my needs I prefer the android route. I know Sony have Android TVs as well but don't think we get them here yet and for half the price, my Sinotec has the same processor and specs as some Sony's abroad.

The updates are just a bummer, not a deal breaker as Kodi can access my videos through the network and I've just had to make a few changes to my audio system. Hoping for any reply from Sinotec. Even half as responsive as this skyworth team in this thread would be awesome.

OK So I received a reply finally from Sinotec. They say its not updates that caused NTFS and Bluetooth issues.
"The microprocessor has crashed. Please send us the TV to replace the main board".

I'm no tech guy but sounds like nonsense to me.

NTFS is a kernel software issue, nothing to do with hardware.
Bluetooth is also a software issue, just look at Xiaomi that fixed a lot of those issues with software updates in their Mi box that uses the same chipset.

Hi All,

Unfortunately, we are not able to support adaptive refresh rates. We did try and get it working, but the team was not able to do so.

Sorry about that.

@Skyworth Digital Support it seems that the Google Assistant bug is back. The only real solution is to clear data for the Google app, which renders this as a temporary and annoying fix (because I have to reregister with the Assistant to allow it to work each time). Is there a way to get this investigated?

Also, HDMI-CEC (particularly, powering off) doesn't correctly work with my TV, despite advertising that it should. For reference, I am using a Sinotec 40" FHD TV (model number STL-40F1A11A), which claims to have this feature. Could this be an issue with the Binge Box or the TV itself?

EDIT: oh, one more thing. Is it possible to purchase both the remote, and the game controller that comes with the G6-series TVs separately?

The Android Pie update should resolve the Google assistant issue, we have investigated it, and we understand the root cause, but there is no easy way to fix it without a full update.

HDMI CEC gets implemented differently by a number of platforms and devices, it's difficult to test against all of them, and interoperability cannot always be ensured. Sometimes it's a case of choosing which device to support. We will look at this and see if there is a way to improve it in the upcoming update.

For TV support you will need to get hold of our TV division, you at https://www.skyworth.co.za/contact-us/

I just bought another BingeTV, probably my 4th to setup for my parents.

Upon setup, after you've chosen a language, it gets stuck on "Checking for updates". I've tested over WiFi and Ethernet with the same result.

Tried a hard reset, reset by remote and even removing the power cord. Nothing seems to work.
Any ideas?

restart your router. check Dhcp is working properly in that ip, Mask, Gw, and dns are correct on tvbox.

Is there a remote button combination I can use to do a factory reset from the setup screen?

Same thing happened to me. Check their support page and follow the stuck on updating during setup question.
