Slack launches biggest redesign to date

Slack has implemented a major redesign for its desktop and web apps which introduces a number of changes aimed at making the application simpler and easier to use.

New features include an overhauled sidebar, a navigation bar at the top of the app, and a dedicated compose button which can be accessed from anywhere within the interface.

The new navigation bar allows you to easily search Slack and toggle between recent conversations without navigating through separate menus and chats.

But does it make it actually better?

We've started to use teams...

Being able to create folders for channels is a huge improvement. It essentially imitates the layout that every other popular work chat app has, with 3-pane organisation vs. Slack's 2-pane crap.

Groups/Channels/Teams -> Thread/chat list -> Threads/chats is the only way to properly organise a huge number of chats. Folders isn't a terrible alternative, but without being controlled globally it does mean that the default state for users is still a massive, cluttered mess.

LOL - good point. They might be inadvertently making Slack into nothing more than another flavour of email.

We have also started to use Teams. It is horrible. Really horrible. Our dept has decided to keep using Slack and just use Teams when video conferencing with other departments.
The showstopper on Teams for us is group notifications. Seems to have been broken for years.
