Hi
I need advice on choosing a cpap machine and mask. I have been advised by sales reps but I am sure they biased in their opinions.
I was diagnosed a month ago and would appreciate your honest opinions.

Thanks

Well I have a Resmed Airsense 10 Elite and it's a superb machine. It's my 2nd machine in 8yrs.

Mask, I love the nasal pillows also Resmed. The face masks are horrible

Have been using the Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset with nasal pillows (p10) for the past year. Made a huge difference to my quality of life and will highly recommend it. Initially had a Resmed full-face mask and it was horrible, couldn't sleep as air was leaking everywhere when turning on my side waking me up. I Moved to the nasal pillows and never looked back.

Discovery gives discounts on some of the CPAP machines if you are a member. Try to go for a 'Auto'-machine, this ramps the airpressure up/down depending on your breathing requirements and most likely will come with a humidifier for use in the winter. (I'm in the Free State with cold winters and never saw the need for the humidifier but it came with the machine.) The cheapies only do 1 pre-set pressure and the airpressure can be overwhelming/noisy when trying to fall asleep.

Comparing the F&P and Resmed machines the resmed looks more stylish and will not stand out as much in the bedroom.

I suspect I am suffering from obstructive sleep apnea. I need to visit a doctor. I have managed to make an appt for Morningside Sleep Clinic (Dr Kevin Rosman) but it's R1600 for the first appt! Also managed to get an appt for Dr Alison Bentley who is literally half the price for first appointment. Anyone have any comments on either of these 2 doctors? I would rather pay double if it's necessary - living in a state of being half awake all day is causing me a lot of grief in my life! But if Dr Bentley is good, I'll see her and save myself some dosh for potentially buying an expensive darth vader sleep mask!
